Seen this mentioned in quite a few reports b I've never been myself. What's your usual order? What to avoid?

They have burgers in three sizes. I usually go for the medium size (250 grams I think). Just pick the type of roll and desired toppings like cheese or bacon etc. It's a basic burger joint with burgers and frites. So if you like that, it's all good.

Smuler took me there for the first time during his visit last month.
Excellent burgers! Make sure to ask for a fried egg on top of your
burger. The fries are supposed to be tasty too. I have had dreams
about this burger joint since my visit.
Paradise could be a threesome with your two favourite RLD girls while
munching through one of their Angus steak burgers.

I've only been once, and the big black guy who served us in the Warmoesstraat branch was fucking excellent, really welcoming and great to talk to.

I'd go back.

BUT! I don't think it was that good.

It was just a big burger.

I've thought for years the food in Amsterdam is, well, a bit shit.

I get sick of fast food, and wouldn't mind going a bit of a more balanced meal, and there isn't so much as a good pub meal around.

Wok to Walk and the Chippy next door to the Bulldog hotel are good.

I certainly must disagree with you here, as I have always made it a point to try something new every time I have been there over the last couple years....

Sure, I enjoy Burger Bar, but it's just a snack

Your comment makes me wonder if you're going to a different Amsterdam than I go to ??

Best Regards

Smuler

Even though there are many "burger joints" here in the US, none of them match Burger Bar. I don't know what it is, maybe all the weed and sex, but Burger Bar makes tantalizing meals with real Belgian style fries and Angus Beef or Kobe Beef...

Why? Because I disagree with you?

I haven't seen many good pub meals to be had really, just steak houses and mexicans, with promotional door staff that instantly put me off.

I'm sure there are some gems, I haven't found them in 13 visits...

Why don't you tell me what kind of meal that you're looking for, and I'll give you a suggestion perhaps ?

I have to agree.

While to each his own, there are dozens of places that I eat or have eaten at that are very good to fantastic. And most are not all that expensive.

Tell me what you like and I too will offer a few names including a bunch of pubs.

Regards, Roland

All I was saying is I've never had a good meal over there.

Therefore I tend to stick to fast food, and I get a bit sick of it after three days.

There seems to be lots of places to eat in centrum but none attract me.

I'll listen to any reccomendations :D

Moeders is good.

Hoi Tin (dim sum) or New King (both on Zeedijk) for Chinese.

Thai Bird Snackbar, The Bird Restaurant (across the street) or Take Thai ( more expensive) for Thai.

Italian sandwiches at Pasta di Mama. Dutch sandwiches at Shaapskoi.

Cafe Loetje

Sluizer for fish (though pricy)

Padi for Indonesian.

Cafe Prins

Cafe Bern

Toscanini

avoid Japanese and sushi as it is really expensive.

Just my 2 cents.

Lots of high end to chose from including Michelein stars.

Regards, Roland

Here's a question where best place to eat by yourself. As last time I had it all plan that I eat at a few trip adviser places but most of them look for couples and group so I'll felt out of place going in.

I did tend to stick to McDonald last time but this time I want to have a nice full meal and bit healthy at the same time

Castell's Bar Be Cue or Cafe de Klos are good for solo dining. Both have bar seating.

You can get a decent quality Italian meal at Pizzeria Piazza on Paleisstraat which is easy to find down the the left hand side of the Palace, Dam Square.
Small bistro style with maybe 8 tables and you don't have to wear a dinner suit.
Decent quality at a reasonable price - don't expect 'just like mamma used to make' food but palatable and tasty particularly with a beer induced hunger.

Hope the link works, words in Dutch or English
Good luck
Mr M
