i only ever post when i am about to go amsterdam.

i have been 7 times now, you may of read an old trip report of mine, this time i plan on going in august for 2 nights on my own.

now that i am on my own....and its been since last year july..i was wondering..just how much money would i need to keep myself full,high and satisfied.

im guessing a morning,afternoon and night time rld visits are a prerequisite.

i plan to touch down on a friday afternoon...probably find the hub coffeeshop i plan to spend most of my time with, in the afternoon..have a stroll. look at some women, analyse the girl scene, and by the evening..made the choice...for a 50 euro visit, a few spliffs...back to hotel and sleep i suppose.


the next day, wake up for 10- go to a internet cafe cofeeshop combined kind of place....smoke, surf the net.....go for a walk to wok i think its called...enjoy noodles.....cofeeshop.....chill...power nap at hotel.....with 3 visits ...so im guess 200 euros are needed for the satisfying side.

how much can a man smoke on his own? a eighth a day...so 50 pounds on 2 different buds for the weekend.

i suppose food and drink would be 100 euro at least....


alone, with the ticket being the 300 quid park, spending money will be 300 probably too..

any cheaper alternatives!??...travelling solo may give you freedom..but even for two nights one is thinking its looking like a 600-700 pound trib..including 4 ladies, smoke,food,flight and travel.

i dont know how some go on regular trips!!...is there a cheaper spot for the same thing? i usually go rld and hang round dam square

you've been 7 times before, but don't know how much money you'd need?! just work on what you took before, but take into consideration you won't be buying rounds/splitting bills!

for what its worth, i always work on around 100euro a day - but then i don't budget travel either. that works for a decent breakfast, decent evening meal, and a good few beers (although i rarely drink pints). that usually lasts me, and as i don't smoke quite as much as everyone else, it covers me for one trip to a coffee shop to pick up supplies for the few days i'm there.

girls budget is seperate. if i know i'm seeing 4 girls over the dew days, i'll take 200 (more if i plan on doing longer sessions).

i dunno what else to add. Surely this is a YMMV kinda thing, like the girls!

yes..well i have been 7 times and each time been hanging around dam square area, in the touristy areas..which makes me a shit explorer.

i was just wondering for those with experience..what would be the best solo plan and area in amsterdam...would the single area be more suitable?

ive never been on my own...my fear is bumping into someone i may know also taking a trip....its hard to explain.

ive never travelled solo before....

and as my own company is me...leave not alot to do...i guess...perhaps making a friend to smoke with may help....

i usually spend 100-150 a day...but travelling alone looks expensive paying for one room alone...300 quid it will be.

Singel, De Pijp, Jordaan, lots of good coffee shops there, usually cheaper than in the center.

Also, when i'm not stayin at some friend place i prefer hostels with a kitchen, which makes me save up quite a bit (as long as i have the age to do it at least), if not Wok to Walk and the such as are more than enough most of the time...
Let's just say that if i wanted great food i wouldn't leave my country :-D

Drinks are pretty much the same price everywhere, just avoid tourist traps (i'm thinking to bars in Dam square, to make an example)

At last, i book as soon as i can, usually a few days after coming back, in order to find the best deal on both flight and staying.

thanks alot for that info, i have been a few times on the singel, if i have explored that particular one out of the few mentioned due to location and convience of location in all honesty. my last trip report if im correct the road going left facing central station would be the barneys, popeyes, nice vibrant street...if you mean that as part of the singel area then thats fine, i like the singel as its quieter...as a first time solo doer...i kinda feel nervous walking among busy streets..the rld last year when i went in july was so busy and alot of drunk people around....i love it when its quieter, you get the to take in the full scene...due to work commitments i can only go next month and not the quieter periods like november when i once went a few years back....


i dont know what others are like, but when i smoke i cant really walk alot, unless i cocktail it with a couple of pints, i could stay at one coffeeshop all evening....going alone again i would probably have 2-3 spliffs on my own..morning,afternoon evening..and prob one before bed.

other then that..if i do have the will power, to go around the rld and have a look...see the talent and make a decision after one row....but you gotta save your energy!!

I've done a grand sterling in an afternoon. But that was a bit of a wild time. Usually I do about 400-500 a day

on saturday is my one full day in dam, on friday yes ill be there for 12- 1pm...and probably at most visit to girls.

on saturday will be the three.

so at best 5 visits hopefully keeping the damage of 200-250 euros..200 euros would be a steal!

the best part of amsterdam for me is drinking and smoking,cocktailing...visiting the rld on your route back to the hotel..rather then staying in the rld all day and evening.

i made that mistake the past few times i went......being in therld after a while personally makes me feel like i miss out on what everything else amsterdam has to offer.....leidesplien is a brilliant area, hot rock cafe, hieneken tour....canal riding.

i guess doing as much as you could do in amsterdam socialising enjoying it...the rld really is the Cherry on the top.....


i guess during the day it does not have the same charm.
