There are many....

Here are two of my favorites :

Cafe Remember : 81 Oudezijds Achtrburgwal , friendly staff, 5 Euro pints , smoking section. Beer selection not so good. But a long time micer meet up spot. Be nice to the black cat...

If your really into good beer..then De Wildeman... Great bar ..on the way to the Singel..

Really good food, nice atmosphere.... Oudezijds Kolk 9 ..

You can reach it from either Zeedijk right off Warmoestraatt, or from Prins Hendrikkade around the corner from the Barbizon hotel..

I always used to hit up Slainte directly across from the Old Church. They had a couple of decent looking but arrogant female bartenders but the last time there, it was mainly guys working. The kitchen was good for some cheap toastees and the TV always was tuned to some sports event.

But since Sexyland area has closed up, the best place is probably Cafe Remember for location and de Wildemann for the beer.

Thats so funny. I went in there in May for breakfast, and later on for a few beers. The female waitress and bartender were so abrupt and arrogant..... Thought it was just me....

They do a good burger in there, but ive felt the arrogance of those bartenders aswell. So for me this is a place to be avoided really.

Excalibur does'nt get to busy i find, plus you can smoke anything in there (except crack ).

Also like SVU18 said indewildeman is a place for beer connoisseurs :)

Cheers!

Cafe Remember if you want good music [mainly ] and sport on TV

3 Sisters if you want strong ale and excellent grub.

now and again, i will walk along a back street and pop into MANY bars in Adam, you will be pleasantly surprised, as 90% of them are good

regards

Cafe 't Gasthuys on Grimburgwal (end of OZV... walk past Damstraat and Rock Planet on your right and keep going) isn't bad. I forget what I paid for a Heineken but they did a great burger in there, though the frites weren't that great (frozen, I guess). Good size menu and some snacks/appetizers including bitterballen, which you should try once if you haven't had them before.

Cafe 't Gasthuys does not allow smoking. Or at least, no one was smoking in there last night or when I went a week earlier.

Cafe Remember and Red Light Bar have glassed-off areas (visible) where one can smoke in back, but you can choose to sit in the non-smoking area (i.e. main bar).

I think that many (most?) bars don't allow smoking, but I'm a creature of habit and tend to visit the ones I know that do allow it, so it's hard to come up with a longer list!

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned The Bottle - see link below. Not the cheapest in town but you can smoke tobacco, weed/hash without having to leave your bar stool. Also it's a late bar: 03.00 Sunday-Thursday and 04.00 on Friday and Saturday.

Another drawback... a pint of Heineken is eur7,50... I thought I heard him wrong the first time. I was in there tonight. Never again.
