Hey,

Just wondering if any one has visitited the Verzetsmuseum (Dutch Resistance Museum) and what their views are on it? Would you reccoment a visit? Had a good read up on the website and seem pretty interesting but they're going to say that, aren't they lol!

Cheers :)

(I did use the search option but there was only a brief mention in 2010 and then 2005)

I went there last year

Very interesting, and sad also

Europe was a very fucked up place during the war...

Best Regards

Been there twice. Once was enough but a friend wanted to visit it so went again.

Excellent. Very moving. It's in the Plantage area near the zoo.

Cheers guys, I came across it on a website and the write up seemed pretty good. I'm always interested in learning a bit about places I'm visiting, though Amsterdam has several activities that can side track one!

That's right Greenhoff..

I suppose things never change , in a way...

But things here in the USA ain't too peachy lately...

But on a serious note

If you're in that area, check out the Hollandse Schouwberg on Plantage Middenlaan 24 ( Free admittance )

It's the theater where wealthy Jewish people used to enjoy their entertainment before the war started...

The nazi's used it as a "processing center " to send 80 thousand Amsterdam Jews to the concentration camp

Also, the Artis zoo is opened until sunset on Saturdays ( I never made it last time )

Best Regards

Smuler

The Resistance Museum is across the street from the Artis entrance and about 50 yards to the right.

If you are interested there is also a Tattoo Museum on the next block up from the Schouwburg at number 62.

Schouwburg, Resistance Museum and Our Lord in the Attic in the RLD are probably among the five most interesting things to see in Amsterdam.

Regards, Roland

Well everyone's said what needs to be said I guess, but I may as well wade in and recommend the place as well.

Tattoo Museum is definitely worth a look as well if you are down that way.

Been there and liked it. It is also not very far from the Jewish memorial/museum.

Rough day for me when I saw it. I went to the Anne Frank house, the Jewish Museum and then the Resistance museum. Brought back a lot of memories for stories my parents had told us about growing up during the war.

Yeah that was my plan of action. I'm also hoping to visit a few in Germany as well. It's good to get the different perspectives of each country. I think the German museums will be very interesting apparently they are straight up with what happened through the war rather than burying their heads in the sand, a little like my own country (with other history, not the war because we won you get constant reminders).

Shit, I'm getting old!

I don't know why it took the Germans so long to find Anne Frank in Amsterdam.

I was there last week, and there's signs for her house everywhere . . . .

I was in Cologne earlier this year and the National Socialist Documentation Centre was perhaps the best and worst experiences I have ever had. It can swallow you up for hours and you will feel that much more knowledgeable - and equally saddened - about the evils of the 20th Century. Don't plan on feeling very good after you leave.

There was an article in the Guardian a few days ago about the Tattoo Museum. It looks an interesting place...

I really want to go to the Dutch Resistance Museum. I'll go on my next trip as i've been to the Rijksmuseum twice now (which I thoroughly recommend).
