Hi all - has anyone heard anything 'on the ground' about when the Sex Palace will be closing? The 'gentrification' of Amsterdam's red light district / cannabis coffeeshop scene in the 'de wallen' has been happening for a while now, but with this enormous landmark of Amsterdam' red light district set to dissappear, I can't help but feel very nostalgic that times really are a'changing! (and I've only been coming here for four years!)

I won't be over in Amsterdam again until sept/oct time, so I'm hoping the Palace will still be around then, so I can have one last 2 Euro punt!

I recently watched this 12 minute documentary on the Sex Palace, which you guys might find interesting as it has really cool interviews with Jan Otten and a few of his cohorts. Sad times indeed.. no Sex Palace, no Amsterdam RLD in my humble opinion. I always go in there, insert my €2 and check to see if the little fella is working or not. I just give him a little flick and if he responds then I shuffle out and visit the unfortunate lady of choice. The sex show was always on the hour.. slightly un-erotic, but still good for a giggle.

I never checked how long €2 got me, but it seemed to be around 2 minutes tbh. Sometimes it went on a little too long and I'd had enough and left before the blind came down again. Maybe they have different timers for different times of the day.. or when it's busy, so more people can see the performers?

I always thought that the change was a scam, at least at the counter anyway.
I tried to change a 50 Guilder note once and the guy gave me change for not even quite 10.
He then looked down under the counter. I waited about 20 seconds, thinking the rest was coming. When he started reading a newspaper I punched the glass. The balance of my change appeared instantly.
I've seen others ask for change only to have the counter guy take their change into a booth and pump it in the slot for them. How helpful. I doubt they got all their money.


I think the quality of the girls has diminished over the years, but sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised.
At times I have been utterly mesmerised, but I'll put that down to the combination of chemicals in the bloodstream that were causing me to doubt my libido in the first place.

I do find it funny how ridiculously Photoshopped the pictures of the girls are outside or at least a decade or two out of date.

All in all I shall miss this place. Slowly, all the landmarks are being eroded. Shame!

No, it's not my thing really. 2 Euros every now again was worth it just to get in the mood. There are no seats in the normal booths and I check the floor before going in. Based on my last visits it's best to go just after the hour to see a couple fucking. The rest of the times are just girls and the couples start slow so if you want to see fucking and not pay more than 2 Euros you have to time it just right.


There's no more in Holland but there was still one in Brussels when I visited a few years ago. I don't know of any others.

I remember reading about two peep shows in Antwerp long time ago. Are those also gone ? A trip to Antwerp seems to be the best alternative to Amsterdam for me at this time.
