Well, these online petitions don't usually do much, and who knows how legit it is, but it doesn't hurt to try anyway. I'll give it a sign and pass it on to some of my friends who might be interested. Least I can do, even if it doesn't pan out.

I signed. The website it is on is a good site with lots of success stories from online petitions. I hope others sign as well. It could use more signatures.

why can't they simply police it well, which they used to do. leave people to enjoy their lives

I think the point is that they didn't used to. There were drug dealers every where and many of the shops were fronts for money laundering and other illegal activities. When I first visited in the 90s one of my favourite girls told me this though at the time I didn't think much about it. Earlier in the 70s, Zeedijk was virtually a no go area with heroin dealers and addicts. However much we hate the planned changes there are legitimate reasons for them. Just because we don't see this stuff going on in front of our eyes doesn't mean they don't happen. I want to enjoy honest, guilt free and non exploitive shagging trips to Amsterdam.

I still think Amsterdam is cool, apart from RLD the museums, venues and vibe of the city is great.
I visit every year and long may it continue.
