I'm thinking of hiring a car out for a day in Amsterdam for a bit of exploring.

Thinking of going to a few other red light districts, just basically cover any within an hours drive away.

Any advice on parking etc?

Advice? Yes, don't drive in Amsterdam.

If you're going out of town for a bit, then fine. But as soon as you get back to town, dump the car. Rent a bike or take the trams.
