Incidentally, has anyone been to Toro Dorado ?
Wagyu beefsteak.........price is ridiculous, but is it worth it?
It's meant to be the best in the world ( wagyu, not toro )
I love a GOOD steak, but 5 times the price for the same size?

Anyone tried ?

In this part of the world, the best beef is from Cherry County, Nebraska.
So tender that you can cut it with your fork.
Beef in Europe is usually grass fed from Ireland or South America.
I dont think it is as good as grain fed beeef from Japan or the US.
I wouldn't spend 5X for the more exotic strains. Maybe 2X.
I don't care if my steak had a massage, or a happy life. I just want it to taste good!

I agree.
but Wagyu is grain fed( so they say)
is it worth it?

Texas is the place to go, 120 oz steak plus the trimmings.
I shall try to find the site again.

but this not Amsterdam related.

Actually, this reminds me. Is there any particularly reason there's like 700 Argentinian steakhouses in Amsterdam? Been wondering about that. Don't mind it, it's kind of my default to stop in to one of them when I can't really think what I want to eat, just seems strange that there's so many of them.

Generally speaking, discussions about good food are not! No problem. :-)

worth that much more.

I personally wouldn't pay that much more for a steak... Some of the Argentinian restaurants aren't too bad at all.

Well, I've had actual Kobe beef in Kobe, Japan. Quite expensive, I think it was around 60.00 for a three ounce steak, plus soup and rice. It was very good, melts in your mouth. If you've seen the meat raw, it has a ridiculous amount of marbelling. Apparently, it comes from cows that they keep in air conditioned barns, they feed them beer, give them massages, rub sake into their skin, and play them classical music. Japan is a strange place.

Anyway, Wagyu, from my understanding, is fake Kobe beef. It's beef from cows that were supposedly raised in a similar way to the ones in Kobe (though I doubt they feed them beer or any of that stuff) that they can't legally call Kobe beef, because it isn't from Kobe. I'm not sure how regulated it actually is, though, they sell frozen "Wagyu" beef burger patties for 12.99 for a box of 6 at the supermarket here, and they have Wagyu steaks in the butcher section for not that much more than regular cuts, so I'm somewhat skeptical. I kind of think the majority of so-called Wagyu beef is just regular old extra-fatty beef that unscrupulous restauranteurs pass off to gullible foodies. Might be different with the regulation in Europe, but in North America, at least, I wouldn't trust someone trying to sell me "Wagyu" as far as I could throw them.

Thanks for that info grimnul,

I will probably go with the ones I know,
as I said in a previous post, there is a relatively new steakhouse just off Damstraat.
( used to be a sex shop )
been there 3 times now.......can't fault it.
didn't know if this wagyu thing was worth it.
at 4 -5 times the price, after reading your info, not worth the risk!
thankyou for your input.
