Hello everyone, I am going to the Dam solo in Nov and I am definitely looking forward to it. I was there in May but only for two days. I thoroughly enjoyed my time but I am looking forward to seeing more stuff as I will be there for five days this time. I saw two window girls in May but I was super baked and did not even think to ask names or note the location(Sorry the weed and window shopping chicks made me harder than Chinese Algebra :) I was a shark on a feeding frenzy). I know one was on Goldbergersteeg because of the down stairs and the dead end. She was a hot kind of tanned chick with dark hair past her shoulders and I remember when I asked for cowgirl she asked if I wanted to be her toro haha. The answer was hell yeah. Now that I know this heavenly little slice of the internet exists I will note my future encounters and report them here. Not a ton of questions or anything because it seems like most shit can be answered here with a quick search. Basically I am just posting this so I can stop feeling like a creepy ass lurker.

Hi Dayman,

I am heading to Amsterdam in November too. Winter is my favourite time to travel as there are far less crowds and the girls kamers are less like saunas!

If you need any advice etc just let us know,

J

Well one question that may sound dumb is about my credit card. I got a new card recently and it has the chip on the front but comes with no pin. Its a chip and sign I guess. Does this sound like it work most places in the Dam? Last time I had a magnetic strip USA type CC and basically couldn't use it anywhere.

Also has anyone had experience with the Holland Casino? I really like to play blackjack and I wonder if its worth checking out.

Lastly I will be in The Dam Nov 12-16 if yourself or anyone else is around and wants to grab a beer or a joint or go to one of the titty bars. I would like to possibly check a strip club out but not necessarily wanting to go solo. Hopefully it will be less crowded in Nov. In May there were hammered British dudes everywhere which I am fine with just coming from the USA I think everyone is gonna try to start some shit (which they did not) and also coming from the south I feel naked without a gun near me haha. (I have a concealed weapon permit so I am legal and stuff and this is normal in the south I am not considered a psycho. Probably sounds weird to Europeans).

I would call the bank/card issuer to a. Find out if your card will work over there and b. give them the heads up that you will be traveling abroad those specific dates. I made this mistake in the past and spent my first hour in Amsterdam on the phone with the bank trying to correct this problem.

I wouldn't worry about people starting shit with you, especially from any Brits. Have a blast and I hope to see a trip report from you in the near future. I'm booked and fly into AMS on 11/28 for 4 nights. Can't fucking wait!!!

English guys are mostly about singing and shouting, not necessarily fighting/starting on you. Myself and most of my friends love our American cousins and love to party with you guys, so don't worry there! It might be a bit different in a tough boozer in northern England, but that would be the same for me (being a southern softie and all)!

Enjoy it mate.

Haha. Yea I did not really think you British guys were looking for a fight its just when theres a ton of drunk people in the streets I did not want to pull the proverbial "stepping on my Jordans". Whatever the Brit version of that is.

I'm there in November as well. Never been in the winter before, but I've heard it's nice. Quite a bit less expensive for me to get out there from Canada too. Definitely looking forward to it.

I've never had any issues at all safety wise in Amsterdam. I was even there on King's Day when the entire city becomes basically a giant mass of drunken bodies. Worst I've ever had happen was some gypsy looking dude trying to sell me drugs, and I just said "no thanks" and kept walking, and he didn't bother me. Amsterdam feels like a very safe city to me, though admittedly, I'm a big guy, so I'm probably not a lot of people's first choice of target.

Most you really have to worry about are pickpockets, though that seems to be quite uncommon nowadays, and is easy enough to avoid if you're not completely careless, and some of the girls in De Wallen, who might as well be pickpockets with some of their business practises.

I'm out there from the 21st-23rd.

Your card will work fine however as mentioned above please phone your bank company before you travel as it can flag up as fraud by using your card in a foreign country.

I'm english myself and while I am sometimes exasperated by the actions of my fellow countrymen in Amsterdam they will rarely fight and if they do it tends to be within the group that they are travelling with.

You will find Amsterdam in November to be really quiet (except possibly after the 23rd as that's when the cannabis cup takes place.) Some of the girls go on holiday in November as it is quiet but there is still a large range of girls, especially if you are there over the weekend.

J :)

About going solo, I made the mistake of booking a hotel for my first trip to the dam. I've found that hostels are a lot better if you are a solo traveler as you have some human interaction.
