Looks like Spuistraat in the background....

Shortly after a visit to the nearby "Magic Mushroom Gallery" Smartshop by the look of it ;)

Aldebran you're right ..... the picture is taken from Wijdesteeg looking towards Spuistraat

The red sign in the background is for "Coffeeshop Softland"

Yeah this is the cool bit of Spuistraat. Does anyone know if it had genuine squats at one point?

Coincidentally, I came across this blog entry that includes Wijdesteeg as part of an Amsterdam Street Art Tour, it's worth a look as it has more cool pictures:

Squatting in this part of Amsterdam is long gone.
The city is very particular about real estate ownership and development within the Grachtengordel,
and would quickly take control of any derelict property.

PS-Squatting was a big deal when I first started visiting in 1980, and they were EVERYWHERE!
By the mid-90's, most of them in the centrum were gone. I am sure they are still about, but nowhere near Spuistraat. Noordamsterdam and the east side docklands areas maybe, but even those are starting to gentrify.

Hi,

Looks like a bit filtered on Photoshop, there's something unreal about those colours, but it's very nice looking, and so vivid. I also like the street called Sint Antoniesbreestraat where you can see street art on walls and those buildings painted in blue, green, red and yellow. It's two steps (almost litteraly) from Nieuwmarkt.
