This is really neat. Maybe I am the only one but I would not mind if the girls dressed a bit more "normal" i.e. not porn starred up.

I seem to remember seeing one or two mirrors like those on normal building's, so I suppose at some point years ago they might have been windows.
Anyone know when the picture was taken?

I would say between 1970 and 1973, something like that.

Anyone know when the picture was taken? It was taken in 1968. The last external mirrors I recall in De Wallen were in Slapersteeg near the Oudekerk. They are off course still common in other RLDs like Den Haag.

Sherida has always had a mirror like that, on Tromp 1-2, so just a couple of feet away from the ladies in the pic above :)
An old school lady like her, I'm pretty sure she still uses it.

I would ideally like a mix of outfits and not just everyone copying each other. I'd like to see some girls super slutty and nearly naked (like Simona and many girls these days), sexy uniform (proper fitting not just a cheap outfit from a sex shop), red carpet event (Austrian Gina from Tromp around 2002 used to wear some nice classy dresses) and girl next door (Like Sandy in her torn jeans back in the 90s on the female end of Bloedstraat).

Man, those girls looked classy.
I feel like you would be drinking cognac and smoking a fine cigar while they were blowing you.

I do agree but I can't believe we are complaining about girls wearing too few clothes!

I love all the old photos and stories of the RLD (I love history of most things). Are there any sources online or in Amsterdam?

From my earliest memories of the late 1970's the ladies seemed more seductive and mysterious, they wore more clothing giving you the merest glimpse of what was to be uncovered. Nice dresses with classic underwear, sometimes a catsuit, mini skirts too Certainly were more curvacious and inviting in the way they looked at you plus you could have a bit of banter with them. I felt that they were less sulky and moody looking than the more recent crop. Seen a gradual change over the years to where we are now and whilst I found the eastern european girls to be of great interest 10 years or so ago I'm a bit fed up with there being so many now as I like a variety. My tastes have changed over time - I liked the 'older woman' too but I'm so old now unless the Fokken sisters start up again I'm stuffed lol ! Nice to see those old photos though, I too wish there were more but I guess not many girls wanted to be photo'd. The mirrors were great because not only were they a good lookout for the girls they also worked in reverse for us micers as now and again a slightly open curtain gave you a free live show (albeit in a mirror through a small gap..... allegedly) Cheers, Mr M

Not wishing to blow my own trumpet but a few years back I did a lot of research on the history and found some fascinating information and loads of old photos- http://www.amsterdam-red-light-district ... story.html . There is a photo almost identical to the one posted in this thread here- http://www.agallery.com/aspx/photos/EE19199.jpg (for copyright reasons I can't directly post it). One of the two photos is clearly printed in reverse. I think it's the black and white one since the lamp post which used to light up Tromp I believe should be on the left.
