Hi, heading over for yet another trip shortly. I usually eat at Humphreys or any or the Argentenian Steakhouses off the Damrak. I've heard of a Thai restaurant named Bird, anyone here ever try it, or recommend other asian restaurants?

There are 2 Birds....a restaurant and a snack bar. Across the street, on the Zeedijk, from one another. Snack bar is cheaper, windows overlooking the street and you can watch the world go by.
Restaurant is more formal, better decor, dressed up waitresses, yada yada.
Both offer some of the best Thai in the city.
Fish cakes are excellent as is the sate. If you order sticky rice in the snack bar they have to get it from across the street. Otherwise all is the same, except prices.
My only complaint about the snack bar is that you smell like cooked food when you leave. Thus I prefer it there when it is not full and the doors are open or I am wearing clothes that I have worn for a few days and I am in the process of throwing in the laundry.
Restaurant Wau same street (yellow sign just down from the snackbar) is excellent Malay cooking.
The Hospitality College restaurant on the Roelof Hartplein is very good value.
Regards, Roland.

Bird is fantastic. Probably the best Thai food I've ever had and very good value. Gets very busy around peak dinner hours, though. I usually try to get in no later than 5:00 or so. Every time I've tried to go in the evening, it's lined up out the door at both the restaurant and snack bar.

Check out La Place in the beginning of Kalverstraat by the flowermarket. At least for breakfest. 2,95 for 7 items. Everything is freshly made. Really good pizza for lunch/dinner also. Read about their concept here: https://www.laplace.com/en/

Second Roland.
Thai Bird and Cafe Wau are places that I visit every trip.
I usually eat early in the evening, crowds can be huge by 8PM.
