Hello Punters

I am planning my next escape from "Red State America" to A-dam. I usually head to Vegas over Superbowl weekend, now I am wondering if A-dam would have a place for me to bet on the Superbowl, perhaps some NBA games as well. I checked out the website for the Holland Casino in Amsterdam. No mention of a sports book. It there a "Legal” places to bet on sports in A-dam? Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The Holland Casino does not have a sports book (At least they didn't as of last April). I haven't seen any sports betting in A'dam in my dozen or so trips there. Maybe one of the locals knows something I don't, but I don't think there are betting parlors a la London.

We don't have bookmakers here in Holland like the UK, the only one who is allowed to make people bet on sports and that is more or less only on soccer is the national 'sporttotalisator'. You can bet with them in almost every tobaccoshop.
Odds are worse than bookies so i prefer online sportsexchanges like betfair.

Thanks for the information. it had never occured to me before in all my trips - and theres been a lot - that there was no bookies. They're everywhere in the UK and you can bet on the outcome of the most ridiculous of things. It shouldn't surprise me to find out that the Dutch have more interesting things to do with their time.

I remember that several years ago I saw a branch of Ladbrokes (spelling?) near the Leidseplein. Is that still there? Aren't they a British bookmaking company?

Thanks for your feedback Gentleman. The American Football championship game (The Superbowl) isn't until February 5th; so I will have plenty of time to save up money and go first class. Nothing makes a sporting event more exciting that having a wager on the outcome. Now that I have discovered A-dam, I may never return to Vegas!! I made my first journey to Amsterdam last June. Needless to say, it was an experience of a lifetime. Spent much of my time getting stoned and visiting the lovely ladies at Ria's. Long live Amsterdam!!
