Works by Dutch master Rembrandt discovered in Amsterdam

BRUSSELS, Sept. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The Rembrandt museum in Amsterdam, capital of the Netherlands, has discovered four forgotten works by the Dutch master.

According to reports from Dutch news agency ANP on Thursday, the four oil painting studies were found during the preparations for a new exhibition at museum "Het Rembrandthuis".

Rembrandt van Rijn (1606 - 1669) painted the works to illustrate his use of unusual lighting.

The significance of the paintings came to light as the museum was putting the exhibition "Rembrandt, the search for brilliance" together. It will open in "Het Rembrandthuis" and the "Gemaldegalerie" in Berlin next year.

Professor Ernst van de Wetering, leader of the Rembrandt Research Project, carried out researches over a large number of paintings Rembrandt' s students copied from the master's own work.

During his research, Van de Wetering became convinced that someof the works could only have been painted by Rembrandt himself.

"Het Rembrandthuis" is hosting a mini exhibition from September22 to December 4 to show off the newly discovered masterpieces. Enditem
