If it's just budget you're after the Continental on damrak - about opposite the top end of Beurs van Berlage - is cheap. Not a wonderful hotel by any means, but cheap and often has availability.

Try the France Hotel. Very good diggs in a good location and reasonable price. Your best bet is going to the VVV Tourist Information center across from the train station and take advantage of the daily specials.

I've stayed there a few times. Cheap and cheerful but a good last resort. Book there and cancel if you find something better (like the Terminus)..

Try www.bookings.nl.

There was a thread on here recently about the Royal Taste. Its a few hundered metres down from the Torenzicht. Some friends have stayed there and also at the Royal Taste, similar type of accomadation I'm led to beleive.

Try the Hotel Hortus. It is near the Amsterdam Zoo and the botanical garden. Low rates 25 - 35 Euros and I think cash only. They have website.
