I'm just wondering what's the best way to get to London from Amsterdam? I'll be visiting Amsterdam for a few days and thought I might take a day or two in London to have a good time. Is the best way by train? Which? About how long is the travel time?

abc123 is right. Approx an hour on the plane. As opposed to approx 6-7 hrs from Amsterdam Centraal to London Liverpool Street via train and high speed ferry.

Thanks guys. For some reason there is an astromical amount added to the total cost using flybmi into heathrow. Any reason why there's 160E in extra taxes and fees for two tickets from AMS to Heathrow? Easyjet seems to have more reasonable 16E, though to other airports that I'm not familiar with around london. Interesting... Thanks for the replies! I will continue to investigate.

easyjet follows more accurate a demand and supply driven price model. it is much more elastic than the other airlines.

try going via Hoek van Holland if time isn't a factor?

easy jet is the best option , it wont take you to heathrow but stanstad , its only a half hour train ride to liverpool street .bmi is expensive as its expensive for planes to land at heathrow, and the customer pays the price.

Easyjet to Stansted or Gatwick. Also worth looking at BA.com as their off peak fares can be lower than Easyjet. Note that the facilities at the new pier H - for low cost carriers - at Schiphol are non-existent (no seats, shops, etc). Don't bother looking at KLM.

I went KLM from Heathrow last month. Booked about 3 weeks in advance and cost about 100 pounds return and was cheaper than Easyjet at the time.

Wow. I do the route regularly and have never seen KLM cheaper than BA or EasyJet.

Depends which way you go. Every European country where they fly will have cheap return flights INTO 'dam but not the other way around. If I rememebr right, my last trip over was £60 or about €100 which is great. For fun, tried booking the same trip but Amsterdam to London instead and it showed £300.

The Netherlands Tourist Board need your money I'd imagine, they probably pay KLM a sub for the cheap flights they put on and then get in back in taxes when you spend in shops etc.
