Can anyone tell me how to get to Ijmuiden ?
Want to go and see the cruise liners navigate the locks there in close up
Looking at my NL rail map. it seems no trains go this far, only to Haarlem
Any info, gratefully received

Perhaps you can take a train from Ams Centraal to Driehuis, which is adjacent to Ijmuiden. From the station its either a long walk or a short taxi ride to the locks.

I've never been to IJmuiden myself but 9292 is the first place I would look when planning a trip. It will tell you about trains, trams, bus connections etc.

I visited IJmuiden a couple of years ago before the fast ferry service from Amsterdam was stopped. I half remember that there was a good bus service too, popular with Amsterdammers wanting to relax on the beach.

The locks, bridges, islands, ships and steelworks are all pretty impressive - add a cruise liner too and that's a spectacular view.

I went a few years ago on some kind of hydrofoil ferry thing. I think it went from behind Centraal station near those slow ferries. Came back on a bus to Haarlem and then train to Amsterdam.

Sadly george, the hydofoil lost its licence due to safety concerns after quite a few accidents, but thankx anyway
