Strange question and not for the reasons people probably suspect (drugs etc) but when you get on the ferry as a walk on passenger does your hand luggage go through a bag scanner? Can anyone confirm that has been recently please?

To my knowledge (which is always hazy on the way back) they don't scan your luggage at the Hoek either on the way in nor on the way back out although they have the equipment there I think you walk past it. I've been questioned whether I was carrying on the way back out when I was out of it, but not searched.
At Harwich they always scan on the way out, but only if you should get pulled by customs on the way back in, not likely, probaly been pulled twice out of 40 times and I'm usually a straggler looking worse for wear.

When you get on the ferry at Hook of Holland there isn't any baggage screening. When you arrive at Harwich the customs people might very occasionally check someones baggage but its not a regular thing.

If you are travelling the other way (Harwich to Holland), they do routinely scan luggage in a machine before you board at Harwich.

i always get there early never scaned but i have been searched before...
