It's all total rubbish!!!

Approximately 2 weeks ago, the Mayor (I think it was the mayor) of Amsterdam announced that coffeeshops will continue to be allowed to sell cannabis to tourists. This will be reviewed in 2015, but it looks like they will never stop the toking in the Dam!! :-)

Glad to be the bearer of good news for once! ;-)

would like to second that, it is a relief. it seems these reports have just been flared up by internet gossip mongering. i welcome more and more evidence speaking otherwise of coffeeshop closures :)

HolyShitBSE - I assure you, you don't need any more evidence than my word on this matter. :-) Basically, it seems that the British and American media decided that after laws being passed in the EU courts and Dutch courts regarding members only clubs, etc... that the Amsterdam City Council would be following these laws in their coffeeshops, and therefore outlawing tourists in Amsterdam's coffeeshops. However, as I said, the Mayor announced approximately 2 weeks ago that it would not be happening in Amsterdam, and that it wouldn't be reviewed until 2015.

I was also told that in 2015, it will be reviewed, then it's most likely going to be decided to review it again in another 4 or 5 years. So in essence, coffeeshops are not closing their doors on tourists, and in all likelihood, never will!! :-)

Peace

@HolyshitBSE

I've posted a link on the previous page, not sure it's official, but as it says exactly what jgramos recently confirmed, i'm pretty confident this awesome news isn't unfounded

Just got back from a sweeeeeeet trip.

Can confirm that nothing has changed since I went in December '10.

Happily sitting with 3 grams of Cheese, Bubblegum and Amnesia Haze.

High times.

I think the main problem doesn't come from Netherlands.
The main problem comes from all other hypocrits- puritanists countries all over the world.

A study (http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style ... 10086.html) shown that cannabis (11th) is less dangerous than alcohol(5th) or tobacco (9th). Alcohol and Tobacco are legal but the old rules from the 70's put the Cannabis as dangerous as heroin or cocain. (damn these baby boomers definitely ruined the world... ). That is pure bulshit : cannabis is not more dangerous as Spaghettis, coffee or chocolate when usage is controled. That is the case for all products.

There is no question of making alcohol or tobacco illegal ... so why not show some intelligence and legalize canabis all over Europe (Portugal example is clear ). The repressive way is an absolute failure, and cannabis could generate incomes and jobs in every country. This would solve immediately the problem of ashsoles going to Netherland only for few hours to buy a lot of cannabis to sell home. (but i fear that the politics control some people and maintain the quietness in suburbs by allowing them to sell drugs... )

Here in france 12 000 000 people smoke from time to time (and no matter job or age). But, eiter we smoke cut shit that is much more dangerous than genuine weed, either people grow their own plants at home.

All of this is just plain hypocrisy. Religion and political extremism are much more dangerous for the mind than cannabis...

Dear micers,

No significant changes since JG last report who witnessed no restricted selling at that time ?
Amsterdam still welcomes with open arms tourists from France, UK, and anywhere else in Europe and over the world, without distinctives and selective criterias based on nationalities ?

Anybody who's there, including locals can confirm ?

Cheers.

Carice,

Weed selling is going on as robustly as ever...at least as far as I have noticed..and there is even no scarcity of the around the corner dudes with hoods crying to sell it in palm-to-palm exchange mode ;-)
About your second question, it is all the same as usual...

cheers

I was just told that the ban will still go on but not in Amsterdam ?

Is this true ?

I looked online and all i find is the whole country is still banning tourist from smoking.

The short answer is no. It's not happening at all.

This rumour seems to be particularly rife in the States plus every Amsterdam video on YouTube says something about tourists "now being banned" in Coffeeshops in the comments.

Mis-infomation frustrates me.

Sorry guys, it's definitely going trough, The highest judge in NL decided in favour of the government plans.
Might take a while though before the wietpas is in effect, at least not before the new year. Plans are to start with 5 major cities in the southern part of the country, then being followed by the rest of the country.

Court order or Dutch newspapers enough proof for you?

Two quality newspapers on the issue (sorry only Dutch):

Most coffee shops in Amsterdam are still talking about 2015 as a possible date for an ipothetical implementation there.

No fonts, only facebook pages and word of mouth.

Well, unfortunately, I can't read Dutch. But haven't newspaper reports been wrong before? And court documents unenforced?
