I'd like to know of more Attractions, that any of you could may suggest? Raves, Clubs, Lapdance Clubs, Landmarks etc. some nice sightseeing places, any Dutch Footbal fans here? how much roughly are tickets? I want to explore, party and visit, as well as pursue to do other things. Golf Courses? post below of any less of the unknown attrctions, you can think of, I would like to do more with my trips in the future.

I'd really like to go to a Shooting Range, which I have known and heard of people doing whilst visiting. I'm still yet to explore North Holland more in itself, so any directions or tips on how to visit the likes of Den Haag, what tram to catch etc, would be great. I am aware, it's 3am in Holland now lol and this is all completely random to anybody reading this, but your help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to do more, as I know, there is way more to Amsterdam etc.

p.s Is there a show still on in Casa Roso, were, she smokes a cigar threw her? I am yet to see this extraordinary act. Time to sleep, drunk & high, thank you Micerz, may you all get some cheese and rest.

God Bless

In Amsterdam, if you haven't, rent a bike.
It gives a totally different view of the city.
Get out of the center, and try a few new areas.
The Het Ij brewery on the east side,
the markets-there are dozens of them
the free ferries to North Amsterdam--I like the trip to the NDSM warf, where there is a nice beach and some great restaraunts like Pillek. There are plenty of paths all the way to the seaside if you fancy a longer ride, through some very interesting little towns.
Festivals at the Westergasfabrik on the west side.
Vondelpark is awesome in the summer. Wander, picnic, people watch.
Take the train to Zanse Schanse, and browse the shops and windmills like a propper tourist.
An hour or less on the train will get you to:
Haarlem- home of WIllie Wortels, an Infamous coffeeshop, as well as a cinema where women wander about offering sexual favors during the show. Old school filth at it's best!
Den Haag-real brothels like Stout and Diane's Secret
S'Hertgenbosch- the 500th anniversary of Heronimous Bosch, the very strange mideaveal painter. Huge museum exhibit, outdoor shows, wandering characters in costume from his paintings. Who needs drugs, when you can see that sober?
Honestly, I spend more time in Amsterdam on food and culture. Not like I'm promoting celibacy (hardly!), but there are so many interesting things to do that I run out of time.

Wait...can you share more about that cinema in haarlem? I've never heard that mentioned before.

Regards.

PS i agree about getting a bike for a few days, really opens up the city as you can see so much more so easily.

Thank you very much for some insightful idea's. I will be sure to look into your recommendations, I hate anything more than to be a typical tourist, when I know there is so much more to a culture.

I really liked the Electric Ladyland (Fluorescent Art Museum); very unusual place (I'm pretty sure someone here recommended it to me).

I always take visitors to The Heineken Experience; I've been seven times now. It seems like the kind of place that people often dismiss as being too touristy, but it's a pretty decent and interesting attraction, and you get some beers included in the entry price. They also (usually) run free boats up to Rembrandt Plein after your visit, I once bought a beer on the boat and got a free snack box. :)

I also second weasel's recommendation of Het Ij brewery; it's a real working brewery (unlike Heineken Experience, which... isn't).

Wynand Fockink does a really interesting tour and tasting session of their geneva and liquor distillery, although I think it's only possible on weekends (this is another recommendation I got from someone here).

As for shooting ranges, when I Googled for ones in Amsterdam, the places I found all had minimum group requirements of four people, so I wasn't able to visit them (I don't really know anyone else who's interested). However, I visited one in Prague a few weeks ago and it was an amazing experience and definitely something I would recommend trying if you have the opportunity to do it.

Same here, my friend.

I am yet to visit one and have always wanted to! their is certainly Shooting Ranges in North Holland or Amsterdam, a quick search, I found a website specifically catering for stags, but I think, you can contact the hosts and possibly suggest, if you could lower the amount attending.

Hello Weasel,

I am yet to rent a bike, could you elaborate on what you mean, it gives a different view of the city? again, if possible could you or anybody else, who is familiar with these, please elaborate on Festivals, Zanse Schanse, The Cinema in Haarlem, Stout & Diane's Secret mentioned? The Museum you mention interests me as well. I'm excited for my next trip now! lol

I can't comment on Stout, but I've been to Dianne's Secret a few times over the years. It's a privehuis. It has a big lounge where you sit while you choose a girl (i.e. there's no privacy between you and other visitors). You choose a girl, a room and how long you want to stay, then go with the girl to the room.

Personally, I found it much better than any privehuis that I've visited in Amsterdam (Park 118, Asmara, Love Club 21). There's generally a wider selection of girls available than other privehuis I've visited. Out of three the girls I visited at DS, one was among the best experiences I've ever had (visited many times), the second was very good (visited twice); third was average (visited once). Unfortunately, none of those three girls work at DS any more and I can't comment on any girls currently working there. The themed rooms are really nice; definitely higher quality than typical privehuis rooms, especially the VIP Jungle room (which costs extra).

That said, I think DS is quite expensive and I've had comparable excellent experiences at other privehuis outside of Amsterdam, which is the main reason I stopped visiting DS in recent years. One hour is €150 at DS, whereas other places are usually only €100. Nevertheless, it is a nice place and the pictures of girls on the website are generally accurate.

The theater in Haarlem is the Roxy sextheater, near WIllie Wortels.
G H Bone had a report recently.
Working girls are listed as present from 1200-1800.
I haven't been, but I am very curious.

Zanse Schanse is a town just north of Amsterdam, with a string of working windmills, and a bunch of tourist shops. Lots of opportunities for windmill pictures, something you should take home if you visit as often as I do.
20-30 minutes by train.

The festivals you just have to find by hunting on line. Or stumbling in by accident.
If anyone comes across a reference for the Alkmaar Culinary Festival in September, please let me know.
I used to be on a mailing list, but I have not seen anything in a while, and It is my favorite Dutch festival.

Stout and Diane's Secret both have good websites. Real old-school brothels.

Now get out there, find something truly amazing, and report back here!

P.S. Who was Chet Baker, and why did I get a picture of him on my last trip to Amsterdam?

In order to help Googling I should point out that the correct spelling is Zaanse Schans.

I can barely spell in English!
My spelling in Dutch should be assumed incorrect at all times.
I can handle a little German, but of course that just makes the Dutch spelling even worse.
Beware.
Thanks, George.
It really is a lovely little town.

Chet Baker was a remarkable American jazz trumpet player and sometime singer. He was also a junkie who lived and died tragically in Amsterdam.

Cheers for Neurosynth!
I found myself in front ot the Prins Hendrick Hotel in the wee hours during a downpour.
I moved under the awning for cover, and was face-to-face with the bronze plaque.
Chet Baker was offered a contract in the 50's to be the face and host of one of the first television variety shows.
It came with recording contracts, and endorsement deals.
Several artists were considered for the spot, but the vote for Baker was unanimous.
Handsome, talented, supremely cool. He was a sure thing.
He turned them down.
They considered abandoning the whole idea, but grudgingly approached their second choice- Frank Sinatra.

I always loved his sound. West Coast cool jazz trumpet is the soundtrack for almost every old black and white detective movie. I knew he died in Amsterdam, but didn't know the whole story.
He was a horribly dysfunctional but supremely talented junkie. Just as he was starting to put his career back together, he literally fell from grace. Got too stoned, and fell out of an Amsterdam hotel window to his death.
There are plenty of cautionary tales of what can happen when things spin out of control, but his seems sadder than most.

When in Amsterdam, I usually do quite a lot of walking as I find it the best way to explore the city. It's a big city and I often find landmarks or hidden secrets tucked away in places that you wouldn't normally see.

I've also used the train system on every trip to visit places such as Alkmaar, Haarlem, Leiden, Utrecht and Rotterdam. The Netherlands is a small country so it's easy to have a day-trip out and then arrive back in Amsterdam for a bit of night mongering.

I'm due back in Amsterdam at the end of this month for five days and intend to explore the eastern docklands of the city, and also to visit Delft, Zaanse Schans and Muiderslot Castle - I like to see a bit of architecture so Amsterdam is a good place to explore.

As for Muiderslot, what is best best way to get there?

Am I correct in saying it's the Metro to Amstel Station and then a bus to Muiderslot?

I've never used the Metro or bus service in the Netherlands before, so what tickets will I need so that I can travel and where would I buy the tickets from?

Thanks
Liam
