The link to the hookers.nl maps no longer works.

I do not speak Dutch but I can see they have upgraded their website so I assume that is why there is a problem.

The maps work if you go to their site and click on the link directly, but they don't seem to be interactive. Can't seem to click on the room numbers, so the maps seem to be of somewhat limited use currently.

I noticed the website has had a bit of a facelift and i was presuming the maps are not available at present due to this. Whether they return, who knows?

As the developer of the interactive maps (hookers.nl supplied the images and I wrote the code to integrate them with the reviews data in the various forums) and various upgrades to the forum and reviews system 4 or 5 years back, I guess I know a bit about this topic. Within the past week or so it seems that hookers.nl has migrated to vBulletin 5. The interactive maps back-end is dependent upon the database schema of vBulletin 4 (the old forum) together with the reviews data. In vB5 the forum database (threads and posts etc) is structured completely differently. In order for the old code to work, someone would have to change the SQL queries (basically the code that pulls all the data out of various structures in the database and organizes it in such a way that you can have a nice interactive map) to work with the structure of vB5 and whatever changes the current developers may have made to the reviews structure with the new site. It's a non-trivial amount of work but certainly doable if they decide to do it. I hope they do. I miss the maps, used them regularly since they went online. :-( Anyway, my Dutch isn't great but people have already complained about this on the forum (along with other bugs related to the migration) and one of the moderators replied that it's a known issue and on their list of improvements. We'll see.

I really do hope they get it working again. Pretty handy to have open in a tab on your phone while "browsing" in De Wallen. Helps you figure out who to avoid, at least.

Yep i always had a tab on my phone with the map there for very quick reference. It was handy for me as i dont go to Amsterdam often and therefore unfamiliar with lots of faces so it was good when i couldnt see anyone from my list i had made from reading on here and could quickly try and find a safe punt.

Lol, everyone was using it on a smartphone, yet I never had the opportunity to test it on a smartphone (just didn't have one at the time, plus I'm not even a front-end developer to start), hence why it was so shitty on mobile. Worked great on desktop though. :-) I hope they improve the mobile experience if/when they ever get it back up and running, but with the amount of bugs and missing functionality on the new site, it does not seem high on their priority list (they actually posted a top 6 or something the other day and the maps were not mentioned.) :-/

While we're on the subject, I've always kind of wanted to implement something of similar functionality here and link it to the data in "The Girls." Never really had up to date maps I could use on ignatz and I'm not skilled with image editing/creation. If someone wanted to contribute some (pls. send me a PM if interested, we could use De Wallen, Singelgebied and De Pijp... don't think anyone really writes too often about other places here), that might motivate me to actually get started on this. I guess I never saw the point previously since the hookers.nl maps existed and the volume of reviews there with fresh info and updates etc was simply much greater than we've ever had here.

It would be amazing if we had that kind of functionality here, especially given that the hookers.nl maps aren't functional! I don't have the technical skills to be able to help with that, but I hope you find someone who does, because it'd be a really nice quality of life thing to have. If there's any other way I could help, though, let me know.

Sounds a great idea. As i have previously mentioned, i found the Hookers maps useful for when i was walking round the city. Unfortunately i have no technical knowledge in how to help with this but i'm sure i don't just speak for myself when i say i'd be happy to help in any way i can.

Sen. Blutarsky, I'd never presume to know what is and isn't worth your time, but I do have a fear about large investments in this site. The fear is that it will add to the load, and then the next time you feel like giving up on the site you will actually do it.

Personally I'd rather see the current site go on and on, than see a big improvement and then a crash.

I think, as it stands, the site is a small gem. It has one of the most civil cultures I've seen, and the tech is smooth and 99% available. It doesn't get said enough; your work here is very much appreciated.

Oh, of course. All the work Bluto puts in is very appreciated. This community on this site is so uncommonly good, it's really pretty unbelievably rare to find an online community that isn't a complete fucking cesspool. We're not a huge site, sometimes things can be a little slow, but this is a pretty special place.

Has hookers.nl given any reason why the maps are gone? Are they going to be updated with rest of the site?

I do not speak Dutch so I cannot find out for myself.

Basically there are so many other things currently broken on the new site that it's not on their list of priorities at the moment. They've talked about wanting to update it, make it work better on mobile and so forth but under the circumstances now I doubt it will ever return (which is why I floated the idea of creating something here... still would need to figure out the actual creation of the map images like I mentioned earlier though.)

I know sites do change from time to time (change of host, server, etc) but i'm not sure why hookers changed so drastically as there wasn't much wrong with the way it was. The old saying of 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it' comes to mind.

I have no idea whether the maps will ever return or not, but if you use Chrome as your browser it has has a built-in translator, which means you can view the entire site (or any site) in English or many other languages.
