There is a couple of posts from Weasel , about street art , there was a program about Amsterdam which featured a hotel called lookout with a viewing platform , so on my next trip, i will be for the first time going on the ferry , which means as far as i am aware ,going to one then going to the other on the ferry means going back to Amsterdam , to catch the other ferry .

My question is has any ever walked from one to the other , it takes 35 minutes according to GOOGLE , is there anything of interest along the way , it it worth the walk? .

I have biked it.
Takes about 15-20 minutes on a bike. I would bet more like 45 min to walk.
The western end is mostly industrial, marinas....As you get further east, it is just a quiet little Dutch town ,which is amazing, considering it is just across the river from downtown Amsterdam. Immediately across from Centraal station is the EYE Film museum, and a couple of hotels, one with the bar on the top floor, and a swing on the roof. All the ferries are free, but only one runs late at night. They MOSTLY go to the back side of Centraal station, but there are a few that go to the Westerdock, near the Silodam, about 2-3 miles northwest of Central.
It is absolutely worth a trip.

Thanks for the replies , much appreciated. would you know the line numbers/destination for each of the two ferries to the hotel and NDSM wharf by any chance , i have been on the GVB webpage and there seems to be six different ferries.

I went across on the ferry for the first time this year, im sure they went across every 15 minutes or so from behind central ?

If you do go across go up the lookout tower for the views and have a go on the swing on the roof, if you don't mind heights...

Centraal to EYE Film Insitute/Hotels is the Buikslotersweg Ferry.
It is a straight shot across the water, runs ever 5 minutes , 24 hours a day.

There is another ferry to IJplein, just a little farther east of EYE, that runs every ten minutes, but shuts down after midnight.

The Ferry to NDSM Werf is about 15 minutes, and runs about 3x/hour. Also shuts down after midnight.

the Westerdock/Western Islands terminal is Tasmanstraat. To be avoided unless you are staying in one of the condos in the area.

Amsterdamtips.com has a good map.
