A few months ago I moved into a new home (is US) which is relatively close to dining and drinking establishments; being far to lazy to walk and not wanting any unplanned incarcerations, I bought a bike for transportation on my drinking excursions.
Fairly nice new bike - about $200 all in.

Then two weeks ago I was in Alkmaar and happened by a bike shop; I wondered in, and the cheapest new bike was about 800€ - seriously doubt it was the quality of my bike.

I do understand demand curves, and the difference in a big box store and a small specialty store; but that is a hell of a delta! In this global marketplace how can this anomaly exist?

Am I missing something? Like a ‘protective’ tariff of imported bikes,or such.

Sorry for the random post - this is just typical of the trivial, mundane thoughts that fill my head ar 2 in the morning.

Peace
Brad
