That only applies to tour groups, which I actually agree with. Hell, I don’t think tours should even be allowed in De Wallen, especially with all the nonsense some of these guides tell their groups.

I understand the motivation, but it never ceases to amaze me how intrusive European governments can be. Can you imagine such a law governing public space in the US? It would almost immediately be thrown out as unconstitutional.

True. It’s a pretty cumbersome solution to the problem. Telling people they’re not allowed to face a certain way in a public space is pretty silly and rather draconian. What do people do one streets with windows on both sides?

Again though, I do think that if the goal is respecting sex workers’ rights to privacy and respect, I really think they should just not have tours there at all. It’s not a zoo, what are you even there to see if you’re not interested in partaking anyway? Why do you need some dipshit spouting all kinds of bullshit to walk you through the area anyway? You can take a stroll through De Wallen under your own power?

Chinese are the worst. They are like little children that have to have their hands held. Why would you waste the time to pay some dork ass loser to blah blah blah about nothing.

It's totally rediculous to try to stop the public (groups or not) looking at anything that's on public display.
Don't get me wrong, I too would love it if there were no tours, but this rule is just rediculous and is impossible to enforce.

This is where we disagree. Women working the windows who also want their "privacy" protected are really demanding to have it both ways. And it's beyond their right to claim.

The whole reason they work in the windows is because they want a public interface that allows them to maximize the return on their working hours. No making appointments or traveling on outcalls or waiting for hours in a private brothel. Opportunities for impulse buyers. etc.

Those are the advantages of working in public. But by definition public space is not private space. Private space is where you get privacy. Not public space.

Sex workers who want privacy on the job should not work in public. It's an option that they are free to choose or not. But they don't get to make privacy demands on people in public.

I don’t necessarily disagree, it isn’t particularly reasonable to expect privacy in a public space. I’m just saying that IF the government wants to pass a law like this, the far better option is just to disallow tours.

I, personally, feel tours should be banned in the area anyway if for no reason other than because you have narrow streets and having groups of 30 slack-jawed Chinamen (Dude, Chinaman is not the preferred nomenclature. Asian-American, please!) standing around causes unnecessary congestion. Just saying, if they want to see it so badly, they can go on their own.

Whilst I’d enjoy the spectacle of tourists crabbing their way down the alleys, switching sides every few paces, I think the facts have been distorted somewhat.

An internet search of the key words returned the Daily Mail, The Sun and the Daily Mirror as the first 3 results, pillars of journalistic integrity all :-)

A think this is just an attempt to have the tourguides stop in more sensible spots, and where they do, have the tourguide themselves face the windows (so the tour faces away) to save the ladies having to be gawped at by a pack of idiots, soon to be limited to only 20 idiots thank goodness.

Sensible stuff I think :-)

Some wag in the Daily Mail comments section suggested anyone having his collar felt for facing the wrong direction would save a considerable sum by just visiting one of the ladies rather than pay the gawper fine. But the fines are for the tourguide, not the tourist of course.

Can’t see it being enforced but I like the sentiment behind it.
