we stay at the B&B ZOH. cheaper than even hostels, but no bed bugs. literally across the street from the Bullewijk metro stop, so really easy to get into city centre for it.

I always stay at the Grand Hotel Amrath, because I’m a fancy bastard (and also because I need to be staying at a 4-star or better hotel to get girls from SS to visit me). Love it. Perfect area, but nice and quiet, great service, comfortable rooms, free minibar, what’s not to like?

Thanks again everyone, especially Grimnul, love reading your reports.
Would just stay in a hostel to save money's, but doubt I'd get any sleep and would ruin the trip

I used to rent the same apartment for the last 15 years in the Jordan.
Got shut down by new city rules. Damn, do I miss it!
Now I take my chances with airbnb or tripadvisor rentals.
I have a houseboat in May. I'm traveling with my grown kids, and they are too damn spoiled to stay anyplace that isn't spectacular!
I have stayed at Hotel Etheria, Acacia, and the Victoria on business.
If you stay a week or more, the Krasnapolsky Apartments are nice.
I wish I knew more about places in NoordAmsterdam. There are a few hotels by the NDSM dock, and the Boatel is tied up there. I would skip the Boatel based on what I have heard.
I'm thinking of staying at Hotel 't Laat in Alkmaar this fall.

Airbnb apartments or houseboats for me, never had a bad experience yet and I've rented dozens of times.
However, since the new laws, prices have gone up and it's getting harder to find decent places for a reasonable price.
Until Airbnb, I stayed at the Krasnapolski hotel, or Krasnapolski apartments.

I tend to stay wherever my preferred hotel website takes me...I have found some real gems that way but few times have I repeated as usually the discounted price is significantly lower than their normal list. Typically involves a fair bit of walking or transit but Amsterdam to me is one of the most walkable cities that I have been to and I love a good ramble.

Staying at a hotel booked off Airbnb, opposite Oude Kerk.
