Guess it was muscle memory at that point, assuming you were staying in your usual room! I got that one by chance once, really was one of the nicest. I've no idea what the hotel is like now. It's gone through numerous name changes (and presumably renovations) since I last stayed there.

room 21, my room !! they always reserved it for me. [Max visited me a few times there] !!!! was the Terminus for many years, then the Golden Tulip. then just the Tulip. my favourite hotel in Ams.no idea what its like now, last time they had just changed ownership, all the lovely staff had changed [for the worst]

Yup, I remember it well! This was always my favorite hotel too, always tried to book there first. I actually preferred it to the Krasnapolsky and Barbizon Palace for one simple reason: those places would always ignore the "do not disturb" sign if you slept late and would ring your doorbell (or call the phone in the room), every time. Whereas the Terminus understood the simple need to just leave me the hell alone!


Yup, you were indeed the first person I ever met from this site, way back in October 2008 apparently. It was my fourth visit to Amsterdam (I went five times in 2008.) As you'll remember, I used to document my trips pretty extensively so all I had to do now was search. :) I cringe at some of the shit I wrote (and did!) during those years but I leave it up all the same. :D

We have never met but through this forum we feel like we have met. We have been going to Amsterdam for 25 years . I remember the first time we went. My wife is my lover my best friend and always will be so we have visited windows and many of the couples clubs. The first time we went we met a guy from Cleveland Ohio , he took us a tour of all of the adult entertainment one day. The funny thing , he said this is my 16th time . I thought this guy is crazy but years later we have did 25 trips.

I started in 1995 when I got my first proper job and I’ve been going 3 to 5 times every year since.
Plus all of the business trips that just had to be routed via a 5+hour layover in Amsterdam.
First time I went for a week with two friends and hated it for the first couple of days, just too overwhelming.
That changed!

I think the Mayor has another three years, till July 2024.

Man , we are so bummed ....you work all of your life so you can travel then this pandemic rolls in . Now we have money but as you get older you feel like you don’t have time. We have friends in Diemen. They tell us everything has changed . Our normal hotel the Groenendahl Mr. Singh has told us he has went weeks without a customer . I know it sounds like whining but we live on a small ranch in Texas and really want to travel to Europe . All the festivals are shut down our bars are limited so entertainment is real limited. Just on TV dr Fauci is saying if we have luck by late fall we might be able to only wear masks at limited times .....

How many favourites will have gone home, never to return???
