I post this photo every NYE that was taken during an Ignatizmice party I hosted on the 4th floor of the Krasnapolsky Hotel overlooking Dam Square on December 31, 2004. A great experience after standing in the same crowd the year before, avoiding glass, vomit, and fireworks. I proclaimed that the next year we would watch it from a safer place, above the crowd, with a bathtub full of Beer and Ice. We ran out of beer before Midnight and ended up using Room Service to the tune of 50E per 12 pack. Worth every dime! Excuse the grainy photo, but that was in the old days with rolls of film vs digital imagery

And 4Euro/beer is not that bad.
I can't imagine what it would cost to get that room at the Kras for New Years now.

I booked it the next day (January 1, 2005) and paid E350. Attendees were: Wim, Withnail, The Admiral and Rear Admiral, Ben1998, and a few I can no longer remember.

After watching the news about the fire at the Vondelkirk, it definitely resonated with me how dangerous it can be when the locals use so many fireworks in proximity to other people,and now see what happened on NYE in AMS

Glad to still see activity on this site, nothing like it was back in the early 2000's, but things change over time. I visited AMS over 65 times and had fun every time, even short stopovers en route to other locations in Eastern and Western Europe. Now that I have moved to Mexico, I have been focusing on Central and South America. Bogota, Medellin, San Jose, Costa Rica, and next month to Buenos Aires for a month with a short trip to Rio.
