On the note of Spanish/Mexican cuisine in Amsterdam, I'd also recommend Pata Negra(Utrechtsestraat 142), a very Spaniard-ish tapas joint just off the Fredricksplein. It has a smooth-looking decorative tiled exterior with big wooden bench tables well seasoned by spilled sangria...on a weekend late night, there are often crowds of locals (read: hot chicks) munching their weay through tapas plates of freshly sliced Jambon while throwing back jugs of said sangria....and I might add that the garlic-fried shrimps and grilled sardines are snack-a-licious!
Check it out sometime.

id have to say that everybody i ever meet in town slags pata negra to high heaven, terrible food etc etc. interesting to hear a decent opinion of it for once as ive always fancied trying it (and the waitresses are very sexy ;-)
most popular tapas in town is pasa doble, so far as i am aware. i ate there about 6 weeks back and it was pretty damned good. location is westerstraat in the heart of the jordaan.
doog!

Yar, I must confess, it has been 2 years since I last was at that tapas joint, but hey, I spoke the truth about there being gaggles of hot Dutchness putting back some tasty sangria. The shrimp were pretty good!
I ate at a delicious tapas joint in Alkmaar, last time I visited.
Utrechtsestraat has several solid choices for food that I would visit before heading back to the tapas spot....Take Thai, for one, is my favorite Thai spot in the 'Dam. Sluizers has some tasty seafood and a pleasant outdoor garden dining area in the back, perfect for the summertime!
Mangia~

no, no, im pleased to hear that its good - ive been trying to get people to go there for ages but always been shouted down (as you know, mr.smokley, it is close to my fave bar...)
...microwaved and self service at pasa doble? not that i saw, but as a relative tapas novice i bow to your experience mate.
