In an effort to start the new year on a positive note, I just booked 6 nights in Amsterdam from April 20-26. Looking forward to meeting up with my old mate Withnail, maybe even meet Wim this time. Perhaps a trip to Alkmaar this time. Won't make the mistake of going to the Keukenhof on a Saturday again. I definitely will go back, but on a Monday or Tuesday.

And my stay just might coincide with that proposed Ignatz 10th Anniversary fete, which would be the icing on the cake. Ah, April in the Dam. I already feel a buzz of anticipation.

Withnail: I think I will wear the maroon jacket this spring. The tan jacket is my autumn wear. They're both getting a bit threadbare, but it's my signature wear.

Wim: Be sure and send Sarah greetings from "her beautiful moustache." All my best laid plans for new adventures always seem to come to naught when I see that smile. Actually, at six years, she's outlasted my ex-wife. :-D

Among other things, I'm sure. Enjoy. Also, this place Carumba that you mention in another thread, could you provide directions. I've been looking for an alternative to Rosa's Cantina.

It's on the west side of the Jordaan, at the end of Lindengracht where it runs into Lijnbaansgracht. Northeast corner. Much better than Rosa's.

On the note of Spanish/Mexican cuisine in Amsterdam, I'd also recommend Pata Negra(Utrechtsestraat 142), a very Spaniard-ish tapas joint just off the Fredricksplein. It has a smooth-looking decorative tiled exterior with big wooden bench tables well seasoned by spilled sangria...on a weekend late night, there are often crowds of locals (read: hot chicks) munching their weay through tapas plates of freshly sliced Jambon while throwing back jugs of said sangria....and I might add that the garlic-fried shrimps and grilled sardines are snack-a-licious!

Check it out sometime.

Thank you, gentlemen. This site is an invaluable resource. The tapas place sounds intriguing.

id have to say that everybody i ever meet in town slags pata negra to high heaven, terrible food etc etc. interesting to hear a decent opinion of it for once as ive always fancied trying it (and the waitresses are very sexy ;-)

most popular tapas in town is pasa doble, so far as i am aware. i ate there about 6 weeks back and it was pretty damned good. location is westerstraat in the heart of the jordaan.

doog!

Yar, I must confess, it has been 2 years since I last was at that tapas joint, but hey, I spoke the truth about there being gaggles of hot Dutchness putting back some tasty sangria. The shrimp were pretty good!

I ate at a delicious tapas joint in Alkmaar, last time I visited.

Utrechtsestraat has several solid choices for food that I would visit before heading back to the tapas spot....Take Thai, for one, is my favorite Thai spot in the 'Dam. Sluizers has some tasty seafood and a pleasant outdoor garden dining area in the back, perfect for the summertime!

Mangia~

Well, I'm game. Perhaps we could combine it with a visit to the bar. I've been meaning to check it out (Now, that I actually managed to locate it on the last day of my last trip). What can I say? I don't see as well at night.
