2000 EasyEverything opens the worlds largest internet cafe in Amsterdam (650 terminals) with lots of hype. Local-owned stylish Dutch i-cafes that briefly flourished are driven from business within the year as tourists initially flock to this place.

2003 Worlds largest internet cafe is downsized (300 terminals). Premises now shared with vendor of discount Cd's and videos, which only enhances the bleak institutional atmosphere.

2005 Closed.

(Of the other two easyEverything cafes, one remains...Damrak 33. Leidsestraat 24 has also been quietly closed)

As of December 18, 2005 easyEverything, the former "world's largest internet cafe" at Reguliersbreestraat 22 is kaput. Like premises vacated by tenants who skip out in the middle of the night, an empty hole is all that remains. We predicted back in 2000, right here on these very pages, that it wouldn't have too long of a life. We can't say we're sorry to see it go.

The Internet Cafe, the last remaining Dutch-style i-cafe at Martelaarsgracht 11
has also finally closed---the name has been changed, but 3 terminals remain. Enforcement of a very silly law prohibiting more than 3 terminals in a place that serves alcohol is responsible.

The Internet Cafe was a daily stop for me until this new law went into effect. I loved it. Lately,I've been using Internet City around the corner on Nieuwendijk when in town. I hope that's not closed, too.

This is horrible news! I keep a business card of Internet Cafe in my office at work as a constant reminder of the fun I had there.
Suddenly my trip next week takes on sadness :(

At least tell me Rusland Cafe still lives

I think gadgets like the new 3G phones and WiFi laptops were bound to malky the internet cafes. Lets face it you can sit in any boozer/coffeeshop you like now and check your e-mail. Now if anyone can invent a wristwatch that will send in that overdue report then start your heart in the coffeeshop when you've got a wee bit overzealous with the smoke I'll buy it.

Why is that? It provided a good service for many, including myself.

Good riddance! They blocked ignatzmice, British prudery has no place in Amsterdam! Something was always broken on at least half of the machines. And I sure won't miss the stupid "your mother doesn't work here" either.
