What are good airlines to use for side trips to Venice or Paris? Is it cheaper to buy once in Amsterdam? Any info will be appreciated. Thanks.

Dave thanks for the link. It looks like transavia doesn't fly into Paris or Venice.

Does anybody know if smartwings is still in business? Web site says down for maintenance?

Any other suggestions for airlines out of Amsterdam to Paris or Venice?

thanks.

Technically, this doesn't answer your question, but I would think that taking a train to Paris is preferable to flying. Venice, of course, is another matter.

I echo Rainer's sentiments insofar as preferring train over plane from AMS to Paris. Based on past experience, I'd highly advise against booking flights with a layover at CDG Paris...I've had too many close shaves, nearly missing transfers there. It's a confusion!

Pepsi - Check the Transavia website again, as they do have direct flights between Amsterdam and Venice. Go to the Transavia website and select Amsterdam in the FROM: field and you will see the second last city listed in the TO: field is Venice (Treviso).

The Smartwings website is not smartwings.com, which is down. Try www.smartwings.net

Following up on what Uber said, I have traveled through many airports all over the world, and I found CDG airport in Paris to be the most confusing airport I have ever encountered, anywhere. Even getting to the airport was difficult. I too almost missed a flight, and only made it because it boarded 30 minutes late. When you add up the time it takes to get to the airports, not to mention all the waiting around, etc, it probably isn't much longer to get to Paris by train versus airplane.
