The Hotel Luxer is the place you're looking for.
It may be a little more than 100 Euro a night depnding upon the season but it's well worth it.
Here is a link to a site with reviews of The Hotel Luxer:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... lland.html
Also you can type in Luxer on this site in the search area for additonal info.
I swear by the place.
Hope this helps.

I'll tell you one place I wouldn't go. Hotel Prins Hendrik.
Great location and the price was reasonable (80 euros), but only after I checked in did I find out that you must leave your room key at the front desk and ask for it every single time that you leave or come back to the hotel. It also looked kind of seedy inside, too. I never got a chance to see the room, however, because I had some plans for a young lady and me, so the key policy was a serious problem.
In the US, if you cancel a reservation before 6 PM you can escape with your money. Not so here. They have a 48 hour cancellation policy. I had to swallow the whole 80 euros if my plans were to go as I wanted. The owner and I got into a bit of a tiff and some angry words were exchanged. But it's his hotel. He can run it how he wants. I just won't ever show my face there again. And, like I am doing now, I will do my best to have others avoid spending their money there.
How many other hotels have this "leave the key" policy?

I've stayed at lots of places that made you leave your key. Rho Hotel, Dam Hotel, De Korenare(spelling?), Vijaja, as well as Prince Hendrick. I agree that it's an inconvenience. That's why I now book apartments. That way I don't have to stagger past the front desk every time I come & go.

I agree I have no problem with leaving the key. I had the impression most hotels did this. As for a Hotel I stayed at the Quentin Arrive it was clean and basic but very reasonable. Close to the centre about 10 minutes from the train station

Keep in mind that the hotel prices in Europe are like airplane prices.
Every room goes for a different rate depenting on how many are free. As the rooms sell out the price goes up. so it is like a lottery. Try to book early-as you can cancel.
Shop around.
There are trains and taxis for further hotels say at schipol or rai, but the trains stop pretty early in the night and you have to be under some control to use them.

Also many places quote a double occupancy price- so if you come back with company no problem. At worst you may have to pay the difference between single/double. I haven't found a problem (although hasn't happened a huge number of times). You run into trouble in holiday spots where there is an all inclusive. I have been rejected in Cancun/dominican republic to bring back a 'visitor'.

One of the "cult" hotels for up-market mongers has always been the Inntel, a 5 min walk from CS. Often you can get a last minute room from the Hotel Resv. Desk at Schipol for under 100E, not a bad price for a 4-star.
Apart from clean, quiet, pretty modern rooms and great location (steps away from Singel RLD, and about a 6.3min walk to Wallen), Inntel has plastic "credit card" type swipe keys. You enter the lobby and go direct to the elevators. Your key fits inside your wallet, so you extract that and swipe it on the elevator door. It opens. You go to your room. No contact whatsoever with the reception. Rooms have sturdy doors with electronic locks, and each room is eqipped with a closet safe.
What more could you want? Well, maybe a bong or vaperisor on the minibar, right?

I have found that most 3* hotels have the leave the key policy. That way you
can't crowd the room over the occupancy limit. It is also a security measure,
but all in all I don't like it much. If it is a double occupancy room no problem.
If it is a single occupancy room tell them that "she" is a visitor and will not be
staying overnight.
I believe you need to asend to the 4*/5* level to bypass the hassle.

Alright Butthead
It is a very basic hotel, the staff are friendly the rooms are again very basic ... TV, wash Basin and small desk table with a shower down the hall. My guess is it is for short stay guests as my room didn't have a wardrobe so my gear was just kept in my rucksack. As long as you want clean and are not overly fussy it is a nice hotel to stay in, I will be staying there again in May. I can't comment on the guests or bringing back someone as I never did but I did have the impression it wouldn't be a problem, I would guess you will just best read the situation and take it from there. I say all this baring in mind I have stayed in a few hostels on the other side of the Dam by the RLD (Kabul) and this one in particular was disgusting complete with fleas, I spent my final night on the stairwell and for the record I would warn evryone to keep away from this place.

Gas pedal -
I can also recommend the France. It is within easy walking distance of Centraal Station and has clean, comfortable rooms. Prices for a single should be around 100 euro (you can find a link to their website via this site). They do have a "leave the key" policy. If your travel dates are around Queen's Day, though, good luck finding any reasonably-priced accommodations.
ST - Thanks for the tip on the Inntel. Written like a true travel professional! I don't know how I've missed staying there. I must have slept at every other decent hotel within 2 km of the RLD (and a few not-so-decent).

try checking out the winston hotel in red light. it does have the leave your key policy but it's not that bad. the winston is a art theme motel in which every room has a different theme. the heineken room rocks and we still have to see the smirnoff button room. from what i heard about it, it's cool as hell. rooms are less than 100 euro for 2 people.
