Do many of the 4 or 5 star hotels in Amsterdam create problems if you have an escort come back to your room? Do they generally frown upon this or take a "business as usual" attitude? . I've seen many postings asking this question for some of the cheaper hotels near the RLD, but not any in the 5 star category. Thanks.

I have not had a problem in either the Victoria nor the Barbizon. The elevator in the Victoria is well out of sight of the front desk.

I forget which hotel I was in - I think the Barbizon - and they called my room to say "Your ... visitor ... is here" I think they knew.

In hotels which do not require a room key to operate the lifts, e.g. the Barbizon or the Pullitzer, my guests have been able to walk freely to my room (obviously I have given the agency the number).

When a key is required, as in many hotels, the agency calls me to say that my guest has arrived which avoids the need for her to speak to any hotel staff and thus reduce risk of problems. The only tricky thing with this is being able to identify your guest in the lobby, but so far no mistakes.
