Reading some of these posts has got me wanting to go back to Thailand, done Bangkok a few times but now want to venture down to Pattaya. Anyone know much about a decent hotel there? I've been looking at the Montein, fairly decent rate there compared with the likes of the Landmark in Bangkok, yet looks a similar type of place. I've done the research on Walking street and the bars on Soi 6 etc, the Montein seems to be quite centrally located to both. Is it handy for everything anyone know also is it girl friendly,

Woody,

Have a look at this thread, there are some recommendations there -

If your staying for a week or more, I would consider a serviced apartment. I popped down to the one recommended by Thaipan (Metro Apartments) and they seemed very clean and well run, but were fully booked.

I think that all the hotels and guesthouses in Pattaya are girl friendly - apart from the ones at the very high end (ie 2000 baht per night), as you the hotel that you are looking at would be 'high end' you might want to do some research before booking.

Stear clear of anything with sawasdee in the name..
The bar called Secrets has a hotel attached which looks good. And the Residence Garden is very popular. I've heard the Mercure isn't gf. They are trying to push Pattaya as a family destination, so choose carefully if staying at a big chain hotel.

I have just stayed at this place for a week in March: http://pattayabayresort.com/default.aspx and it was great! The Metro Apartments is also good and owned by an Irish guy: http://www.metro-apartments-pattaya.com/

Pattaya is kind of old and not that exciting in Thailand for quite sometime. Try other beaches like Koh Samui and Krabi.

Great if your wanting to hang about with backpackers and enjoy beaches, but if your over to monger then pattaya is the place to go.

You don't go to Samui or Krabi for mongering ffs.
Pattaya is the place, though Patong will more than suffice if you want more than just muff on you holiday.
