Hola from Bogota, Colombia
December 24, 2019 – Christmas Eve
It was a spontaneous decision to forgo going near the North Pole and fly to Bogota, Colombia for Christmas and New Year. Other than a 3-months and a 2-months project in Mexico, I have never traveled to South America.
After making the reservation, I read about the protests in Colombia. Unlike the violent protests in Chile, the protests in Bogota have been peaceful. Well, if I make the wages like the average locals here, I would complain too.
It’s not arrogance. But I have been very busy to conduct any research until I was on the Delta flight from Atlanta to Bogota. It was a smooth journey. I got my massage and a nice meal while checking out the cloud outside from time to time.
It was an on time arrival at Bogota airport. But it was dreadful to take the 15 minutes bus ride from the tarmac to the terminal. What da?! When you get to passport control and see the long lines, I wonder if I made a dumb choice.
Finally, I got out of the airport and took one of the tiny authorized taxi. The driver started driving and asked for the address of the Marriott hotel. I told him to pull over so that we could look at the address of the hotel. It’s a cheap ride for 25,000 COP (less than 7 euros). Unlike Frankfurt, Lisbon and Warsaw, Bogota has a Marriott plus a more fancy JW Marriott Hotel.
Oh no, there was no bellman greeting me. Instead, security directed me to walk towards a nice and friendly Golden Retriever. The guy holding a metal detector signaled me to go through the entrance to the hotel. Oh no, not again – I checked into the Warsaw Marriott in the summer time when Joe Biden visited Warsaw for a day……
Thank you, neither MF Trump or Mike Pence was here. It was a nice and warm reception at the front desk. I was very happy at my room. It would be a crime not to conduct inspections in it. But I must eat.
The little lobster next to the sign of the restaurant in the lobby sealed the deal. But they only offered a 4 course meal for the evening. After the soup with lobster meat and crab cake, ‘Kenny G’ arrived and started playing music. When he played the Argentina Tango, the lead waiter and the lead waitress decided to dance. It was great. I was busy doing my research and sent out a message to Maria Paula for the evening or the next days. No reply though. My banker would say yesssss!
https://mariapaulajaramill7.wixsite.com ... scortbogotIt’s a bit late after the meal. The pool was closed already. I decided to relax a bit in the tub to get ready for Christmas Day!
To be continued….
