I read this story last week on Dutchnews.nl I couldn't believe it, so I looked back at some news stories from 2007/2008, and it is true.
Freddie Heiniken and his chauffeur were kidnapped in 1983. Ransom was left at 8 different locations. The kidnappers managed to recover two of them.
One of the kidnappers used the cash to buy property in Alkmaar, including the buildings housing the first and third passages. He died in 2007, and his family would not/could not pay the inheritance tax. When the matter was looked into more carefully, they could not explain where the millions of Euros to buy the property came from. Turns out that he was an accomplice of William Hollader, and the cash was part of the ransom. The government seized the buildiings. Those windows closed about 2009, and the buildings remain vacant to this day.
A new twist on one of my favorite quotes: "I spent a fortune on drugs and hookers, and the rest I just wasted!"
Normally when a pile of stolen money is in close proximity to hookers, the pile of money just evaporates. This guy turned it into a business for decades. Bravo, I guess.

Wow, I had no idea this is why they closed. Interesting, thanks for this.
