Can you recommend an alternative to Amsterdam please?

Hi,

I went to Amsterdam last month and stayed in the RLD. It was brilliant. The RLD was excellent and the city itself made for a great holiday.

(Thanks to everyone on this forum and for the map - it helped a lot).

I'd like to go on another European City break (around 2-3 days) but I want it to have an RLD so I can stay there (or near there).

Can anyone recommend anywhere with a typical window based RLD where it's accepted to just walk around looking at naked girls in windows (and visiting of course)?

Some crtiera:
Must be an English speaknig country/place - I don't speak any other languages.
Prefer it to be Europe.
Must have a good selection of tourist things to do (like Amsterdam has museums, markets etc).
Must be clean/feel safe like Amsterdam.

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Thanks.
Jimmy.

Thanks.
I've taken quite a look at that but it's hard to cross reference against places because I know little about each city and have to look them up.

Antwerp sounds like it has a good RLD but can't see the country interests me that much.

In terms of combining a tourist destination, English speaking, and RLD quality I think Amsterdam is going to be hard to beat. That said, you might want to consider Frankfurt or Antwerp. Be aware that the RLD in Frankfurt requires a fair amount of stair climbing. (Do a search here).

You might also consider visiting Amsterdam again, but including a day trip or overnight in Den Haag. You could even do a multi-city tour including Alkmaar, Leeuwarden, and Utrecht.

Alkmaar.

Compact RLD, good food, smoking.
Really a nice town, quality girls.
Some have limited English, but they get the idea quickly!
Like Amsterdam from years gone by, without the crowds or neon.
If you don't like it, you are only a 25 min train ride away from Amsterdam!

It's Antwerp or Frankfurt I'd say. Antwerp close to Bruxelles too. Could see other rlds in Belgium as well. Frankfurt has lots of museums if you like that sort of thing, the food is fantastic and other cities nearby are reachable by train also and contain their own rlds.

I'm glad that you found the forum and the map so useful. How about writing a trip report before coming back and asking for more information?????

I was thinking about something like this but was wondering what the train ride is like. For example, when I went from the airport to Centraal Station, I had no idea that it was the 3rd stop. I just waited until everybody else got up and assumed it was Centraal. lol.

So, if I were to take a train to somewhere else such as Alkmaar or Den Haag, would it be one stop only, or a few stops along the way?

The best thing to do is consult this neat little interactive map, unfortunately not in English but does contain live info on the network...
http://www.ns.nl/cgi-bin/spoorkaart/spoorkaart

Then plan your journey on the English site...
http://www.ns.nl/reisplanner-v2/index.shtml?language=en

You can then see the stops the train will make along the way.

NB Den Haag Centraal is a terminus so you can't go wrong if you take a direct train there. However, the mainline station Den Haag HS (Holland Spoor) is the better bet as it is closer to both Geleenstraat and Doubletstraat RLDs.

Thanks for the website. Looks like Alkmaar would be the 4th stop from Centraal and 36 minutes. It probably depends on the day though. That is a good website!

Thank you everyone. Are there any other places you may consider?

I don't mind travelling by train for an hour each way from my holiday destination.

I've been to Antwerp previously and the RLD is excellent and enough touristy things to do in the City to keep me entertained. Brussels I did not feel safe in but this was years ago I don't know if it is any different.

Any other places? Really happy to listen to more suggestions, I really want to have a good holdiday destination as well which is making it harder for me to choose.

Thank you.
