I realize I could probably ask 1000 people this question and most likely get 1000 differing answers but here goes....What are the "rules" for carry-on luggage for a flight within the US as well as a flight from US to Holland? I have called the airlines a few times and I get vague answers and even if the airlines say one thing our fabulous federal screeners have the final say and even they vary with what the allow and disallow.I am pretty sure no carry-on drinks but what about something such as a sandwich? How about a portable CD-player?

I can't tell you about your side of the pond but this is the link to the British Airports Authority web site where they are pretty specific.

Best to send all your luggage under the plane these days. We live in a world where the fear mongers rule.

I flew to Amsterdam on USAIR 10 days ago. NO food or drinks to be carried on plane. However on the return flight from AMS they let me bring a broodje and space muffin on board. DVD players are OK Ed

Apparently the rules are going to be relaxed at British airports starting next week.

I would expect the U.S. to loosen things up, too. The restrictions that are in place now are pretty ridiculous.

Hmmnmmm, on the TSA list of items permitted to "ensure the health and welfare of certain air travelers" is up to 4 oz. of KY Jelly.

We live in a world where there are terrorists full of hate looking to kill us, and we reasonable people are forced to cope as best we can.

(Just to clarify who the fear mongers are...)

I carried a laptop and cellphone, as well as a second small carry-on both directions. Had to put toothpaste and shampoo in my checked luggage, which was really nice to have when it finally showed up two days after I did.

I agree.

I was approached by 3 Muslims in the de Burgh one evening.
One comment I made was many Americans questioned as to whether
they were interested in getting along with the rest of the world.

The response was less than comforting. There was no such exclamation forthcoming as one would have expected if one was so interested. They quickly departed without comment.

For myself, I being alone, quickly became engaged with a group from Manchester and
had a great evening.

FWIW, I am looking forward to partying with y'all soon. I love Holland, and hanging
with you Brits has always been a blast. Last trip was marked by a chorus
of song after buying a round. I wish I had ny camcorder for that one. Guess it's
one of those memories that are just that.

See y'all in November. ( Trip was pushed back. )
