I've heard that if one were to discreetly inquire about such items in certain establishments, one might, shall we say - "get lucky!" Even if that is NOT the case...I'm dinin' on some fresh Philly Stones!

i was there in april i was looking for shrooms, i went into a smartshop and the guy told me all they had was the stones. i looked at them and was not interested i acted like i was mad and i didnt want them i turned around like i was leaving then he said hold on i got something, he had a bag of dried mushroom more potent than the fresh variety. they were the mexicans, me and my amigos ate them and got fucked up. you just need to go into the shops like your buying a used car

I enjoy being pleasantly buzzed on 'shrooms (and lots of coffee shop stops!) and wandering aimlessly through the city shooting photos of the simply amazing architecture & old world charm! Last year I shot Amsterdam with a Nikon D2x, with which I got killer results, this year I'll be shooting the city with the new D3x, which is THE gnarliest DSLR on the market right now - 24.5 MP full-frame sensor. I shot most of the trip last year with a 16mm 2.8 fisheye, which made the bendy buildings all the bendier - this year (with the full-frame sensor) they'll be REALLY bendy! Let's see if I can switch to another lens this year!

i'm sorry to be a doofus, and if i don't get an answer from bumping this thread, i'll prob post another one, but i'm a litle confused...

i'm due in amsterdam in a couple months, and my mate i'm going with is well into his mushrooms.

i really can't work out if they are still being sold or not in the smartshops...or even if the smartshops still exist?

i found a couple of sites for shops in amsterdam that gave me the impression they still sold shrooms...is this the case or is it misleading?

so basically...are there still any decent smartshops around, and can you get mushrooms?

any help would be mist appreciated (and save us wandering amsterdam aimlessly trying to find something that actually may not exsist!). cheers.

tonymunch - the smartshops are still around and still doing business. I haven't noticed any of my regular places closing.

You will probably see that the old stickers showing different varieties of fresh magic mushroom are still visible in the windows of many of the shops, but fresh mushrooms are now illegal to sell and the growers of the sealed packets of fresh magic mushrooms have stopped production.

However, the variety known as "Philosopher's Stones" are not technically mushrooms, and the government have confirmed that it is OK to sell these. They are sold fresh in packets as "Sclerotia." Sclerotia contains the same active ingredients (psilocin & psilocybin) as normal magic mushrooms, and the experience is very similar. For more info on sclerotia, take a look at my post on page 5 of this thread

So basically the smart shops look exactly the same, but the fridges that used to contain mushrooms now contain sclerotia. I would say that a typical dose of sclerotia is similar to a mild variety of mushroom, maybe a bit less "visual" than the mushrooms, but the effects are pretty much the same. Although the sclerotia is "mild" I'm talking about mild insanity; if you take a larger dose than recommended you will know about it, same as mushrooms. Do be careful, although if you are familiar with mushrooms you should be OK.

Confusingly, it's quite legal to buy mushroom growkits in the smart shops, but these are impractical if you are on holiday.

The sclerotia is certainly worth a try, it's pretty good stuff - personally I wouldn't bother spending too much time trying to track down actual mushrooms when the sclerotia is so easily obtainable and very similar. If your friend is really keen to get hold of shrooms, as rockdrizzle hints it might be possible to obtain ready-to-eat mushrooms from a smart shop, but both seller and buyer would be breaking the law and any such sale would be firmly "under the counter."

If you want to try this, you can ask politely - most of the shops still display the old lists of fresh mushrooms so you can casually ask if they are still available. If they don't want people asking about them they should take the signs down! You will probably be told firmly that the shrooms are illegal and shown the sclerotia instead, but you never know. If you do manage to track down any dried mushrooms, be extremely wary as they can be very potent! And as always, it's perhaps not a brilliant idea to get involved with illegal drugs in a foreign country, even if you can find them....

This video clip about sclerotia from the Dutch TV news is worth watching (they refer to the stuff as 'Tripknol'). It was filmed just after the mushroom ban came into effect in December. Obviously it's in Dutch, so I don't understand what they're saying, and there's a short advert first, but skip to 2 minutes 20 seconds and the presenter is stood outside the Innerspace smartshop on Spuistraat. They show the inside of the smartshop, where a rather pretty intern from the news programme buys a box of sclerotia, eats it and they film her reaction as the drug kicks in(!) It's quite amusing (complete with psychedelic visuals to demonstrate the effects), and useful for anyone who's curious to see what the inside of a smartshop looks like. I recognise the guy behind the counter too!

It really depends where you are living. Online sellers won't ship these products to the UK (where they are class A drugs) or the US, but will still deliver to various EU countries depending on the local laws.

Sirius products have their own website and online shop Sirius.nl but it doesn't appear to sell their own freshbox products!

There is a colourful freshbox truffle guide here at De stoelendans and they sell freshbox products, but the main part of the site appear to be in Dutch only.

Other online smartshops that sell sclerotia are:

I can't really comment on the service/reliability of these websites as I've never ordered from them, but magictruffles.com actually produce and distribute sclerotia so would be a reliable seller. I can't see many Sirius freshbox products appearing in google searches but no doubt they are available online too.

I've prepared a FAQ on sclerotia which I'll post in the next couple of days, but buying the stuff online is not something I'd included!
