Looking at http://www.amsterdam-red-light-district ... story.html regarding the Stoof bar...in the stoof they have loads of pics of the bar down the ages but that site says it was a window not too long ago!....who is right?

Also the origins on Bloedstraat? is it from the holy host as the place was built on a nunnery or the like...or is it from the blood running down the street as that site says.

There did used to be a picture on the internet somewhere of a girl stood working in that very window. It took me absolutely ages to work out it was now that corner, because i just wasn't expecting it!! LOL!!

I 've always wondered about this aswell. Maybe at one point the owners of De Stoof partitioned that part off of the pub because they saw another way to make money (being dutch ofcourse lol ;) ) and decided "Kamerverhuur" ?

I remember that it used to be a window (if we are talking about the same thing).

bleodstraat translates into blood strret

there was an abatoir on Niewmarkt, and yes, the blood flowed down this street into the oza canal
the 3 sisters bar on niewmarkt was a nunnery

I always thought the name came from the public executions that were carried out on New Market?
Sure Ive read that somewhere.
Beheadings, with the blood draining down Blood Street.
Well at least it's a better story than an abatoir.
