I'm not sure if it's because I've been coming here less frequently and started seeing escorts, but does anyone else feel like Amsterdam and the RLD has become a little hollow and shallow? I still love the city and feel like it's awesome being able to hop on a plane and be here in less than an hour but in terms of going to the windows - especially if you're like me and see only a regular - it's kind of meaningless? No long term friendship ever really forms...

I was very much the same on my time there.I dont want to spend my money anymore really in tbe windows just not doing it for me now. There are still plenty of girls there to have a good time with but for me amsterdam has lost alot of its charm and there was a big increase on beggers and homeless around the rld this time.

I agree, there's absolutely no charm now. I mean, I don't mind paying more than €50 - but as long as the service is good. There's just no point in me deviating from my usuals because I don't know if I'm guaranteed good service anywhere else in DW. And the problem with going to just one or two girls is that you easily forget that it's temporary. They're not going to work there forever, at least I hope not, and one day they'll just vanish out of your life forever.

I'm from London, but I don't call myself English - specifically because there's a huge influx of the worst types of English people every weekend there. They literally give the worst name to England and even the girls and dutch citizens make fun of or are frustrated by it. They are so rude and it makes me so angry when I see a group of chavs berating girls who are just trying to earn money. It's insanely disrespectful and I just can't take it.

Even writing this now, I know I'll probably go back again and again. I love Amsterdam. I, very nearly, moved there once and would consider it again for the right job. But, I'm not as gutted as I used to be at the prospect of not being able to go every month. Now, it's become more of a treat and, in the beginning, it's great but as more time passes during my stays I get more and more annoyed by the kind of crowd it's now attracting.

Apologies everyone who actually read this whole thing. Rant over.

You know, I guess it really depends on your expectations. Seems like it's kind of the nature of the beast when it comes to commercial sex. Ultimately, in 99% of cases, even if you get along really well with a girl, you're not her friend, you're just a customer. I accept that, personally, it is what it is. I accept that these girls aren't going to be around someday, maybe someday very soon, so I just go and have fun with them while I can and try not to get too attached. Doesn't mean I can't like them, doesn't mean they can't like me, but in most cases, nothing's ever going to come of it, and I'm ok with that.

I guess it's a little different for me as well, though, given that I'm coming from Canada, so it's a little more difficult to keep in contact with me than it would be for someone living an hour away. Also, since I only go twice a year or so, I guess I haven't burned out yet like a lot of people seem to.

Just my take. Just killing time until it's time to head to the airport.

De Wallen has lost some of its charm for me. With the demise of the sexyland area with all the window closures and some of my regular girls moving on, it just doesn't seem to have the same feel these days. Also seems to be more rip off girls than ever before. No doubt I'll go back, but it's not going to be so regularly. Going to give some other countries a try

I keep trying to get my girlfriend to go for another city now. Maybe Prague.

Amsterdam vibe is still good, but I am already tired of looking for a good provider for couples now that max is quitting, and with all the rip off reports.

Wallen girls for couples are also expensive.

You are right Amsterdam has lost its aura, not just the RLD, the city as a whole.

The days of the window girls being the same girls you bump into at the local college are gone. I used to get the train with a few of them after their shift finished, unlikely to happen now, mainly because the majority of the girls are not Dutch. Non Dutch girls lack the charm and all round friendliness.

The city doesn't really bank on RLD to bring in the money. the locals see the RLD as a blight and have stopped supporting it (in their minds). With the administrative make up of the city changing from central council to borough assemblies more than likely the RLD will become too much of a burden. Time to say goodbye, the RLD is finished.

I think de wallen becomes more and more like hamburg Reeperbahn.
10 or so years ago you could find great girls and didn't have to look up on the Internet wheter it's a rip off or not (except for OZA I guess. Had my first ever session there. Wasn't a rip off but wasn't good either)
I still like to go to amsterdam alltough it has lost its flair. Maybe it's because I'm getting used to it.. not sure about that. But reading here, that you guys share the same opinion makes me think that De wallens best days are over. Like I said, now it's only a tourist attraction but not worth the money to go visit a girl. The last good providers will be gone soon and I think singel area will get more and more attention over the time.

Depressing reading. I've been visiting for more years than I care to remember but last week's visit gave me similar thoughts.

However, I still got to have sex with a couple of stunners for the price of a nice meal so it will still get my holiday dosh for the foreseeable future. Love the bars too.

Like beginner88 I also think the good providers might migrate in future. I always browse the Hookers site before a trip and the latest reviews are more and more for Singel / Pijp areas.

Just for the record, I think all you guys are crazy. I'm here right now and I'm having a blast.

Yeah, maybe Amsterdam wasn't what it was 20 years ago, but nothing is what it was 20 years ago. There's still plenty to enjoy here for what it is, and all this doom and gloom really seems completely overblown to me.

Just my opinion, of course.

Yep, can't wait to visit again this coming Saturday. Can you look out for Mary please? Doesn't work tonight but should do the rest of the week.

I don't tend to go to De Wallen for night shift as much, most of my favorite girls are day time, and it's less crowded, but I'm sure I'll get out there at least a few times. If I see Mary, I'll let you know.

I will be there next week and I am excited. I was there in May and took the plunge and met some new girls who are now new favourites, while honouring my all time favourites at the same time. I smoked some great bud and wandered the city and put 30 kilometres on one day all by foot. I love this city and I always make it part of my trip plans when coming to Europe.

bt12610, I can relate to what you're saying. I started out with escorts in 2002 before I'd ever been to Amsterdam, so the RLD has always felt like a step backwards to me. Not to say I haven't had a few good RLD experiences over the years (more often in the Singel), but the average quality is magnitudes higher with privehuisen and escorts in my experience.

That said, I still love Amsterdam for everything else that it has to offer; the atmosphere, the bars, restaurants and coffeeshops; it's such a fun and relaxing city to just wander around. I won't stop going to Amsterdam any time soon. There's still nothing like the magic feeling of arriving for a stay in Amsterdam and stepping out of Centraal Station into the city. Even on a dull day, it always puts a smile on my face. If Amsterdam was just the RLD, I wouldn't bother going, but there's so much more to Amsterdam than De Wallen.

See, this is it for me. I think some people feel burned out on De Wallen because they try to make it more than it is. To me, De Wallen is the fast food of sex. It's not fine dining, there's no white tablecloths or fancy service. You pay a relatively small amount, and you get some basic, greasy deliciousness in exchange. I mean, a fancy meal at an expensive restaurant is great too, but who doesn't love a good fast-food burger every now and then, right?

It is what it is. I accept that a session at De Wallen is going to be quicker, more basic, and less personal than, say, an escort or sex with your girlfriend/wife. That's the nature of it. These girls have so many customers coming in, it'd be impossible to be more than that. If you can still have fun having some exciting, albeit meaningless sex with a gorgeous girl, then there still is, and always will be, a fun time to be had at De Wallen. If that isn't enough for you anymore, then that's fine too, but that's on you, not De Wallen.
