I love Bird on Zeedijk. Best Thai food I've ever had, huge portions, and it's cheap for Amsterdam.

The place is just called Bird. They have a restaurant that is only open for dinner hours, but they also have a little snack bar right across the street that's open pretty much all day and has the exact same food.

There's a funky little cafe at Zeedijk 143 (near the end of the street, close to Nieuwmarkt) called "Cafe Latei". It's not a full-on restaurant but its a nice place to pop in during the day for a sandwich or a soup or a piece of cake. The decor is eccentric, lots of character, its full of old stuff. Very close to the RLD - Molensteeg is just around the corner.

Thanks for quoting Cafe Latei
I do like this place too (been there about 5 or 6 times). Charming little location with friendly staff. You can admire the people walking around, coming from Molensteeg and Zeedjik from the upper room on the first floor.
They also make an homemade fruits juice with the fruits (and vegetables) of your choice.
Small location, but funny place to visit at least once.

P.S : There is some old dutch newspapers in the toilet on the wall, back in the 60-70's

Cafe Wau-Zeedijk Malaysian
De Bekeerde Suster- Neiwmarket
Kantjil en de Tiger-Spui Indonesian
Temple Daloe-Utrechtstraat Indonesian
t'Zwantje- Berenstraat Dutch

And that was just my last trip. I love eating in Amsterdam, and I get better every year
On my list to try:
Blau an der Waal-Wallen French

and when you are messed up and starving:
Wok to Walk and FEBO
The very best in cheap fast food. If you leave Amsterdam without trying at least one of these, you got cheated.

Hi,
That's true weasel.
Twice I didn't want to go to Mcdonald's on Damstraat while it's open til 5 am.
And I must say I was a bit suspicious about the rolls in the boxes at FEBO (the one in Reguliersbreesstraat) (i thought it was a problem to keep them so long without being eaten).
But all of a sudden a very simple idea ran into my mind : why not asking at the desk for a fresh and made in front of me one instead of taking one that is not warm at all ? May sounds a bit funny to say that after but yes they do make the sandwich in front of you. And I must say the burger at 3 am after one last dance at La Vie en Proost was a good way to finish the night on the way back to the hotel. : -)

I also recommend Tempo Doeloe, especially for the rijsttafel.

BUT
1) Be sure to make reservations at least a day, if not two or more days in advance. It is a tiny place and it is very popular.
2) Study your maps or do a dry run to be sure you can find the place so that you arrive on time. There's a tram that goes right by Tempo Doeloe, but I can't remember the number. Get a tram map and find a tram that goes on Utrechtsestraat.

Happy eating!

I suggest De Waaghals.
If you want to indulge & try something a little bit different. Know that it is vegetarian.
