You usually won't test positive until you start showing symptoms, so probably too early for the test to show anything. Stay in quarantine for two weeks and hope for the best. If you start showing symptoms, get tested again.

I know 8 people directly, of varying ages.
None have completely returned to normal.
Two of them had it as early as March.

I know we must all take this serious . We know several people who have had it . A good friend got it all he had was the sniffles and Aches . His doctor prescribed some meds a week later he was calling he tested neg twice and he was bragging he had his out of jail card.

Another friend and his wife who were at the Fantasy Fest this year both got it . He had taken a two hour jet ski trip and came back to his hotel worn out. He thought he was just unusually worn out both are in their late 60s. He got checked tested positive he ended up in the hospital. They asked him if he would do a clinical trials the same medication the president had ,24 hours later he was good . He spent 3 Days in the hospital He got out and is back to his hobby job delivering pizzas on his scooter in Palm Beach. His wife tested positive but never had any symptoms.

ok, so my guess is that they lift the 10 days of quarantine after Christmas/ new year for tourist who travel from EU... they might let the quarantine go on during the holidays just to be safe people (like us) dont invade....

let us have our festive fun and reintroduce the quarantine after!

Absolutely bursting to get down there as I normally visit at least every couple of months and it’s now been almost 4 months and with the summer lockdown I’ve only been once since February. Withdrawal symptoms!

As of right now, self-quarantine in the Netherlands is a recommendation, not a requirement. There's no enforcement whatsoever for actually doing it.

That is subject to change of course!

I must say the wording certainly does not read as though its merely a recommendation. At the bottom, there is a section titled 'self-quarantine rules' and within that it says "don't leave your accommodation, like a hotel room".

There is a also a separate section titled 'when you don't have to self-quarantine' which is basically for airport transfers only.

If self-quarantine is indeed only a recommendation as you say, I'm guessing that they have made it seem a requirement in order to discourage people from visiting. I guess the key question is whether it is an offence not to self-quarantine - could the police charge you with an offence if you don't?

I'm not suggesting anyone should visit the Netherlands even if it is only a recommendation. As mentioned above, for UK visitors the self-quarantine upon return to the UK is most definitely mandatory so the overall trip would have some restrictive consequences.

Even if there is nobody checking up on you, the section that bothers me suggests you might be prevented from leaving within the quarantine period. It would be easy enough to enforce this at passport control.

Yep that would certainly also be a big problem. I know there are a few people on this forum outside the EU who visit for a couple of weeks every year, but I suspect the vast majority would be caught by that.

In any case, reading another dutch website as well, it certainly doesn't appear to be only a recommendation so you would be breaking rules and taking a chance by not self-quarantining.

The number of new cases per day in The Netherlands has reduced, but the reduction seems to have stalled ~5-6k/day.
It doesn’t bode well for a science based easing of restrictions this side of Christmas.

I think this will be ok. your trip is super essential isn't it? heheh... I think all essentials trips will be allowed to return within the quarantine time. even if you return home before the 10days limit.
not sure what country you are from though.. some are marked as "high risk zones" even countries within the EU.


from a personal experience: I was visiting Belgium this summer . same rules as now: "10 days of quarantine for all tourist"
us tourists had to fill in all papers before leaving at the airport in our home countries. however, no-one was checking us up in the end. I was also travel within the country which definitely wasnt allowed.

and yes, before anyone starts: Im the first to admit Im not proud of this. I dont recommend this behavior and I dont like breaking the rules or recommendations.

however if you already have payed for the trip + hotel I dont think you will be fined by the border control or police. then the rest is up to you. Good luck!!

The word used throughout the rules for self-quarantine is "should", not "must", which as far as I'm concerned makes it a recommendation and not a requirement.

But that may change in December, since then the new Dutch coronavirus law will come into effect on December 1st.

I definitely wouldn't interpret their use of the world "should" as meaning it is optional, particularly in the context of the government note as a whole - it would be strange to have a section with a number of very specific 'rules' if the matter was only a recommendation, as I refer to above.

I thought you had additional insight from living in the Netherlands, for example through what is being reported in the media.

I have checked out other dutch websites as well and it is quite clear it is not an optional quarantine.
