I stayed there a week after the war started in Mar of 2003. Hope your room doesn't have a big FUCKING Support beam in it. That was kind of messed. Their "lifts" are tricky, especially if you're stoned. You must shut the door or the lift will not work. Lots of places to eat, no shortage. Check down by the Leidseplein. The Rookies/Dolphins/Rokerij/The Noon coffeeshops are also in that area. Dutch Flowers/De Tweed Kamer are practically around the corner of NH City Centre. Softland (on the left) is up the street heading toward Central Station. As are smartshops, The Doors/Chocolata/Anyday coffeeshops are also along the way. Anyday's a little hard to find, it'll be on your right. You have to look for it. We must have walked past it sereval times before we found it.

Restaurant November,
Spuistraat
Walk left out of your hotel (towards Dam square), around 100m on the same side of hte road, beware the bicycle track(!), 2 courses fo EUR 19.50, 3 for 24.50.
Very good food for the price. Very recommended. The last few evenings have been warm enough to eat outside. My favourite value for money restaurant in a very good location.

What about the Brasserie De Poort at the hotel Die Potr Van Cleve. They keep a record of the number of steaks they have served since 1870 I believe. Last time I was there I had #5726901 medium rear. I'd give it a 8 out of 10. I'll be going there again during my next visit in (yeahh) 19 days.

One of my first nights in the RLD I ate at a 'fastfood' chinese stir-fry place. Two big woks over flames near the door. The food was served in a big cup and was a very good value. Thereafter I looked and looked for the place and never found it again.

There was this place I ate at a few years back, that had a lamb dish that melted in your mouth. I wanted to just walked around with a mouthful sucking the juices. Didn't pay close enough attention to where it was at & now it's like a Grail to me. I love the lamb over there, but some are much better than others.

I like the Down Town Diner in Warmoestraat just so I could check out the waitresses.. Last week there was a Swedish and a German, both of whom I could happily strip naked and lick all over.

My recommendation for a wonderful dinner:
Take Thai
Utrechtsestraat 87 (622 05 77)
This modern, all-white restaurant plates up some of the best Thai food in the city. Choose from a variety of curries spiced according to your palate ('soft, spicy or killing', as the menu puts it). The whole fried fish preparations, as well as their duck dishes....are near to transcendental. But do be sure to save room for their delicious desserts, my favorite being delicately flash fried bananas with a homemade vanilla cream sauce. Pukka!
Reservations of course, as with all popular restaurants in Amsterdam, are compulsory.
Happy eating :)

I have to add, for Indian food, the Koh-i-noor on Radhuisstraat, right across from the Westerkerk. I have been going there twenty years but hadn't been recently until last night, and it is still real good. They also have a newer restaurant by the same name on the Rokin and although I haven't been there, I assume it is just as good. Another tip: if you want to save a little bit, get take away and return to your abode. Last night I got a chicken dish for 10 euro, that included a small salad, the curry, and more rice than I could possibly eat at one time, and I'm a big hungry lad. Check it out.

Went to a little Thai place the last time i was over, near Nieuwmarkt called Little Thai Prince. The red King Prawn Thai curry was absolutely sensational. Highly recommended.

Haesje Claes also has a place in the Jordaan. Just walked past it today. It's near the North Church. Not sure of the street right now, but if anyone wants to know, I'll find out and post.
