There is also a tobacco/alcohol purveyor near the upper end of Zeedijk. I want to say the name is McCarthy's. They have another entrance on the street around the corner (name escapes me). I wouldn't necessarily term it "upscale", but it is a very respectably run operation from which I have purchased champagne, Scotch, and many Habanos.

There is no other and I personally think it even better than Dunhills in London. Even though I no longer smoke I stick my head in the door to just check it all out. It is a Dutch classic. Their house brand is comparable to the Cubans and the Domincans plus you can buy their cigars at the airport as well. See if they are having any tastins as they sometimes do a scotch/cigar or cognac/cigar tasting session. Regards. Roland

P.G.C. Hajenius is relatively unique in that as well as the huge selection of Havannas, you can have a coffee, read the newspapers onoffer, and smoke your own cigars in the back room there - altogether a very civilised place. Antwerp has a similar place - "Mike's cigar bar" - very close to the Schippenquatier - convenient!

Hajenius is also our first stop every year in Amsterdam. In addition to the coffee which you can have there, they also have a cigar museum in the back. Very interesting place. If I am not mistaken, they are the official supplier of cigars to the Dutch Royal Family. Very classy place!
