Don't know of any homes, but short-term apartments are a possibility---there might even be something available for a party of nine(!). try www.citymundo.nl.

You can read about lots of things to do on the various pages of this site. There are plenty of clubs---Chemistry, Escape, Ministry, Jimmy Woo, Magazijn, Melk Weg, Music venues like Paradiso. Also consider Cineac and Supper Club for dining---they handle groups quite well.---But just walking around, you'll turn up more than enough to do---that's part of the fun of being here.

We're sure our resident tour guide(s) will be happy to meet you all and show you around ;-)

ok my next question is what is considered a "soft drug"? i have read up to page 20 tonight and i have only seen post about weed, viagra and mushrooms. is "X" legal?

no drugs are legal. this includes what are classified as softdrugs---weed, hash, mushrooms. their sale and use is "tolerated", they're widely available in zillions of coffeeshops and smartshops(along with "herbal" concoctions like "herbal x'. ), X is sometimes available in dance clubs but clubs are frequently busted due to the sale---if you're curious, you can read the official policies here:

Ps: under no circumstances buy anything from a street dealer---they whisper "charlie, extacy, cocaine, viagra...) you'll find a few lurking about certain areas like the main RLD.

gotcha!! we just wanted to know the rules before we got there!1 i have read the stories about the "dealers"...and its not that serious to get into it with a pusher...i'll stay in the coffee shops.

I moved here 4 years ago from Dallas and am loving every minute of it!~ Like some of the others have mentioned, the club/bar scene is excellent here but coming from Austin, this place can be a little slow during the weekdays.


I would suggest a new club called Rain which is located in the Rembrandtplein (across from Escape) and of course you have the others like Jimmy Woo (sometimes a door policy...bullshit), Escape, The Powerzone, Panama, Hotel Arena and maybe even the Paradiso if some good Dj's or bands are playing.

Amsterdam is easy to get around in but the taxi's are a huge scam and very expensive. The 2 main areas where the clubs/bars/coffeeshops are called the Rembrandtplein and Leidseplein.
