I've done as much research there is possible on the internet about this hotel,
has anyone stayed here, is it an OK place, or is their sister hotel ''Old Quarter'',
just up the road better out of the two.?
Any advice greatly appreciated

Never stayed at Old Nickel.
I have stayed at the Old Quarter. Would refer anyone there. Close to everything, cheap, and secure.

I stayed in the Old Nickel in either 2001 or 2002, cant remember which. The single room I took was quite small but i wasn't paying a lot for it. €35 or so. The shower room was next door but the room had a sink in it. It seemed safe and secure enough and is certainly in an ideal location for the RLD

I've stayed at the Old Nickel 5 or 6 times and agree with Madeyes. Personally, I prefer the ON to the OQ. I think it's cosier & friendlier. Bedrooms are tiny with a sink but, hey, what do you expect for €30-35? It's in an excellent location right in the centre of things & within walking distance of the railway station. I'm staying at the Luxer this year for a change; it's just around the corner from the ON.
