Just a quick question with regards to changing my money from £'s to Euro's.

Will it be better to get my money out of an ATM machine in Amsterdam or to actually change it either in the UK or Amsterdam?

1) ATM's give the best exchange rate
2) If you don't use the card overseas, notify your bank that your going so that they don't cut you
off thinking the card was lost or stolen
3) Verify your daily withdraw limits and increase if necessary
4) Carry a stash of your local currency just in case the ATM's are down or out of money (think Saturday night)

most uk banks charge a fee (about 2.25%) for cash at foreign atms but even with this you're still better off withdrawing straight from atm rather than at bureaux de change in uk or amsterdam.

there is usually a min fee so best to withdraw a few large amounts rather than lots of small ones.

ATM's are definately the way to go. Even withdrawing cash on a credit card and the extra charges that brings makes it about the same rate as changing cash at the Exchange places.

I work in a bank and we recommend that you use your cards out there, but withdraw large amounts to save on handling fees. Don't worry about fraud, most banks automatically cover card transactions both home and abroad.
