When looking at hotels and apartments located anywhere inside the "centre", they all claim to be a 5 minute walk from Dam Square.
We are arriving Sept 02 for 5 nights and have narrowed down our accomidations options to three properties. Annema Houseboat, Sleep Happy Apartment and the Tulip downtown. (The houseboat and apartment are located at the corner of ROZENSTRAAT and MARNIXSTRAAT.
Can someone tell me how long it would take to walk from that corner to Dam Square at a normal / leisure pace.
Also, if you have any experiences with these properties, which would you choose to stay at? We are two fourty year old men coming for the fun of the RLD and the museums, etc..
My fear of the Tulip is that after a couple of days, we will be burnt out a little and won't be able to find some peace and quiet.
Thoughts, suggestions?

You are a bit far out from RLD.
The Jordaan is the best part of the "true Amsterdam"
BUT on the way, you have some superb retaurants, brown bars and the Singel RLD.
Much better than the tourist RLD.
If you need to be Central try the RHO hotel.
Enjoy your trip, I'm going 18 Aug, Prinsengracht Concert + plenty of fun.
If you need any more help, please ask.

Thanks for the info guys. We dumped out of the Apartment so far away and grabbed one on Bethanienstraat (sp) in the middle of the true centre.
Thanks again for the info.

I stayed at 3 differennt hotels while there on vacation. Kept moving closer in. 15 minutes is way too far if there is rain. I liked to stay on Beurstraat, at the Terminus, the Ben is also there.

I've stayed at the Oranje Tulp twice now it's cheap, it's clean and it's 5 minutes from Centraal Station and 5 Minutes from Dam Square. The RLD is another 5 minutes away. The Hotel was Quiet and I think was about 60 Euros. When we are in Amsterdam we use the room to sleep and spend as much times as we can exploring the city.
If you get a room facing the back it's fairly quiet. It's not fancy but it does the job
