What are some good sit down restaurants in Amsterdam. I am really fond of Mexican and Italian food if any one knows where I can find either of the two, that would be awesome.

Personally I find the Mexican restaurants to be good food but not especially Mexican in taste, which shouldn't be too surprising since they aren't many Mexicans in NL. So although I eat Mexican food at home I seldom do in Amsterdam.

There are many Italian places, tho, that are very good. My favorite is Casa di David at Singel 426 - it's on the Singel canal by the first bridge north of Leidsestraat. www.casadidavid.com/

If you like Asian food you'll have many choices, too.

Hopefully Uberchef will see this thread and offer suggestions.

Thanks for all the input, I like basically everything but seafood, so I might have to try the asian cuisine.

for good italian food i would recommend vasso which is just off spui square or de damiano on jan pieter heijestraat. for mexican los pilones on kerkstraat.

for a pit stop from red light shopping visit the burrito stand of the same name on the nieuwmarkt and meet Sabre, the egyptian mexican food vendor and enjoy some banter including his crowd charming one liners such as 'i dont give a fuck about anybody' or 'you gotta look the bitch straight in the eye' and similar. highly recommended.

mind you, if you really want to be different you can try www.tjingtjing.com located in de pijp, where team ignatzmice enjoyed eating a selection of endangered species over the weekend. amongst its benefits is the fact that you are positively encouraged to roll a joint between courses, on their garden terrace. axxxtw is still picking Impala out of his teeth i suspect...

doog!

My favourite restaurants:
Los Pilones (Kerkstraat) - great mexican food, reasonable prices. Always busy.
De Portugees (Zeedijk) - very nice tapas.

if you like a good chinese meal then try out the Sea Palace next to central station. you can't really miss the building. it's a 3 story building that floats on the water. the food is awesome along with the interior. a bit pricey though at 20-25 euros.

theres a great spanish restaturant on warmoestraat - just down from the hotel international where we always stay - the boss is a big celta vigo fan, may even give you a free glass of wine if you bring that up . . . . . . .

Thanks for the link to specialbite!

The Spanish place on Warmoestraat is Casa Manolo, I think, and it's a good place! I also like Spanish place at the Spui but its name escapes me.

Our friend Jahn33 might well enjoy these places but he should also know that Spanish food is very different than Mexican food. They're both good, but not at all the same.

I checked out TjingTjing's website. Half the links on it are broken, but if you click on 'banqueting' in the left-hand menu you get a view of a pretty awesome spread. The shit looks pretty good.

great chinese on warmoestraat mid way down on the right if you are walking away from dam square
literally the best waiter i have ever had
he had me and my mates entertained all night with his banter
for example
in his finest chinese accent and wide smile he said to me:

"a sparkling water, for the sparkling gentleman!"

as i was stoned
i thought this was hilarious
and now say it everytime i order a sparkling water
