Hi all, first time poster on here. Cannot believe this site exsisted, its the dogs!

Anyway, just come back from my ninth visit to the dam and my friends and I were wondering, what is the Dutch communities vues on the RLD? Is it me or do you never see any groups of Dutch lads or even single ones wondering the RLD??? Is it frowned upon in Holland?

Just a thought.......

I know many many many many Dutch people who use the RLD, I know one bloke who goes to see his favourite girl every night shes working.

Dunno about other peoples views on it, thats just my view.

There is lots and lots of 'local' particpiaption. I think the clue in your reasoning behind your question lies in your remark about "groups of Dutch lads" - you see wondering around in groups is really something that only tourists do!

The locals in the main just quietly get on with it and enjoy themselves.

In addition, I have heard that most of the locals tend to not use the Wallen which is the main RLD for tourists.

I'm sure he would have an opinion on this , but he is probably busy in a kamer at this very minute!

I see most locals in the Singel or the Pijp. Some have standing weekly appointments. The Wallen gets all of the attention and the tourists, but the other two areas are more typical of the smaller, quieter RLD's found in other parts of the country.

I've never seen a group of Dutch lads out mongering. Maybe they don't consider it a team sport.

I know that American white-sneakers-tourists and herds of pissed Brits stand out like sore thumbs, but how do you tell if some guy is local or not?
Anyways, there's lots of us in all RLD's. Maybe it's just that local guys are a tad apprehensive about getting our pictures taken by groups of tourists and hence take a low profile?

I don't so much "see" the locals as hear them. Most of the conversation and transactions in the Singel and the Pijp are in dutch. I don't mean to eavesdrop, but the streets are narrow and you can't help but hear. Language and dialect give everyone away.
